I can't believe that its already Monday!

On Friday we went to visit Dionysia and Dionysios at their amazingly beautiful house in Marlboro. I'm so excited to have friends living out in our so-suburban Metrowest neck of the woods. They gave us a great spice catalog so soon we'll be ordering and doing much cooking to utilize the new kitchen. I'm amazed at how fast the time went, we were home and in bed at around 1:00 AM.

Saturday was the wedding day - I went with my Mom to my cousin Brooke's wedding. It was very nice, the church was in Seekonk MA and the reception was at the Pawtucket Country Club. Over the years we've lost touch with them (Brooke and her sister are the children of my Mom's brother who died almost 20 years ago in a motorcycle accident) but it was nice to be a part of the event. They lit a candle in my uncle's and grampy's memory before the wedding ceremony, it was very schmoopy but not too long of a ceremony, everyone looked beautiful and immensely happy, the reception hall was swanky and had yummy food. I guess it went better than I expected, at least we were at a table with a bunch of people we knew :) There was a severe lack of sexy men in uniform though (my cousin married a State Trooper) . . . the grooms brother had a neat looking tattoo though, that one could see traces of curling around both side of his neck.

Yesterday was King Richard's Faire http://www.kingrichardsfaire.net/ day, Brian should have pics up later that I can share. James offered to drive so it was nice being a passenger for once :). We got dressed up in garb, found a few friends working there and got to see some of the performers (the last time we went 7 years ago Brian just wanted to go check out vendors and go home, man that's lame!). I ended up scoring the perfect Xmas gift for someone, an aloe plant for the kitchen for $3 and a pretty garnet necklace. I drooled over the stuff that Futurenurselady was wearing (well, she's a good model) and then went to drool over the clothes alone at Moresca http://www.moresca.com/home.php. Methinks I'll be ordering something online soon.

Last night after the faire and dinner we watched Star Wars Episode I while I did laundry, reading the Sunday paper, and attempting to do my nails only to give up and remove all the polish (I think I just need to toss most of the polish I have and get newer, better quality stuff). I've decided that I really want to work on this Amidala outfit, perhaps in time for Arisia: http://www.padawansguide.com/amidala_battle.shtml . I'll have to start doing research on it, taking notes and doing sketches, and doing some parusing for fabric and supplies.

Have a great day all! Tonight I'll have a marathon homework session after work and then head to dance class #2, whoot!

We were discussing the concept of the workplace or the people you work with being like family last week in my Sociology of Organizations class. I've always been a happier and I think, more productive person when I've been in an environment where that *was* the case.

It made me think about my past work at Tufts Health Plans and where I am now. I think after being here almost a year I'm finally feeling like a part of 'the family'. We have a small group, and though its quiet and we're all very different there is some sort of camaraderie there.

A woman in my department took it upon herself to be "Activities Chair" or something like that, and wanted to get the ball rolling on fun at or after work things to take some of the boredom out of our 40+ hours each week. This Wednesday is our end of the summer get-together at one of the director's houses. Next month there will be a trivia contest (match the person to the description - i.e. obscure facts about each person where one can try and guess who they are). We'll hopefully do something once a month outside of work too. This should be nice.

The most amusing part though, is that this woman wrote a mission statement for our group, a really silly one about having fun, relaxing and trying to keep ourselves from jumping off bridges. She also gave everyone "titles" and wrote up a little description of said title. All of these are posted on the wall near our kitchen.

My new title is "Building Supervisor", the description that I am "Keeping it all together and giving Bob Villa a run for his money".

Hee hee!

What do YOU think about the workplace being family or not (and if it is or isn't appropriate)? Given that we spend more and more time at work it seems fitting that people would develop social constructions at the workplace.

Here's our pix from KRF this weekend. As usual the few of me came out with me looking asleep or stoned :)
