Sometimes I really like reading the local paper - I like keeping up on what's going on and what kind of community events there are, or where I can find a ghost-white pumpkin for halloween.
Other times I think it would be better for me to be in the dark.
Man beaten and stabbed near my house: whee
White Supremacists putting flyers under downtown business doors (i.e. spitting distance from my house: they suck

Now this just cracks me up. When we lived in Waltham and got the News Tribune (covers Waltham, Watertown and Newton) there were always things in the Police Beat about people in Newton getting stuff stolen out of their cars. In most cases the stuff stolen were purses, laptops, full CD collections. They were left in plain view in the back seat and cars were left unlocked.
Can you say DUH? I mean, if you lived in an area where stuff was stolen out of cars all of the time, would you leave your wallet on the front seat? I can't believe that police need to do this (although, I guess in Newton, what else do they have to do?) :)
