A Quickie

Friday was good, dinner with the Di's, watching Donnie Darko again, School of Rock and chatting.

Saturday morning was good. Got a listing for a house that looks really pretty, has chair rails, "retro kitchen", is good price and is in a really good area. I'm guessing the place is either a complete dump or will result in a crazy bidding war. I got excited and then kind of expecting that it won't work (see bidding war reference). We'll find out today.

After getting house giddy we went to help Sordidout move - it went pretty well I think (her new place is really nice, I'm so happy for them).

I came home to find a message from my dad - my dance teacher died on Friday night at home surrounded by her family. I'll write more on this later, I don't really have it in me now to discuss at length. I'm very sad and feel very odd, since this woman had such a profound effect on my life, and was the most vibrant person I think I've ever met. She was very, very sick over the last month though, and to think of her suffering and not able to dance makes me relieved that she's not anymore. Also, she went the way that I'm sure many would want to - at home surrounded by family. I'm guessing that there will be some kind of article in the paper about her given her role in the community so I'll post it here later. The world has lost a truly amazing woman to cancer. Damn cancer, every person close to me that has died has been taken by it (thankfully though, in old age).

We went to the semi-weekly movie night at Amavia + Lurfmonkey's place last night. It was nice to be around people, particularly those that are so into their own arts. Just the presence of people like this that I've talked to in the past about Miss Peggy and her illness helped me out. Brian asked if I just wanted to stay home last night and really, I just wanted to be around other people. Having them be people I can relax around, share stories with, and laugh with was very nice. Thanks guys!

Today I have to get my shit together and finish my paper (its almost done, now is the most challenging part - getting intimate with my old statistics test books and then doing the data analysis portion of the methods section). I also have to study for my mid-term, go to the open house, if we like it hang around in Waltham waiting to meet our realtor and then go to his office to write up an offer contingent on selling our house, go food shopping, clean the place for our open house next week and do laundry.

Poor Brian will be doing yardwork to get ready for the open house by himself since I don't have the time to do it today - this makes me feel really bad (he's going to try to level the part on our front yard that has truck marks in it from when we pulled out our dead, old bushes). I need to get this paper done today however, so that I can go to the wake for Miss Peggy on Tuesday night and not need to rely on my composure to finish this paper that's due Wednesday. If anyone is going to be in the Moody Street area of Waltham near the Newton line on Tuesday be aware that the traffic is going to be insane. This woman has touched an amazing number of lives and I can't fathom how nuts it will be.

This is not the best frame of mind to be doing statistics in.

I have a neat documentary of her life on VHS that was on a show called "Our Times" years ago - I think it was around 1991 and was on either channel 4, 5 or 7 (it was a show similar to Chronicle). I'd love to share it with you all at some point if you're interested - she had such an amazing, touching, creative life. I would have brought it with me last night (its only about 8 minutes long) but I seemed to remember their VCR didn't work. I really want to digitize the thing so that the tape doesn't get destroyed.

*Sigh*, back to work.
