A mentor

On days that I have a 4:00 class I work 7:30 to 3:30 (but then take "lunch" at 2:30 and leave for the day to get to class on time). I just e-mailed my boss to see if I can work these hours next Monday to attend a party at Simmons. My faculty adviser/fieldwork coach and one of my mentors is retiring.

I mentioned a while ago that the Pino Brothers were going to be in a Disney Movie this summer - it comes out July 2 (limited run). And wouldn't you know it, Frank's on the Disney website: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/heartandsoul/noflash.html

Tee hee! There is an old band pic and quick blurb under the "Cast" section.

And as expected, it will be playing at the Kendall Square Cinema AND the Landmark Embassy in Waltham . . . Brian and I can walk down from our house as we'll be moving 3 days before that. :)

Someone supposedly wants to buy our dining room set - if the weather is good enough they are coming out to get it tonight. It looks like I'll be emptying it and packing up the contents when I get home from work :)

Also good, is that I found a dining room set that is pretty, and seems it would be a good size for our new dining room. If we had the fam over we'd need to put a card table at the end of it and bring in more chairs - but that's what we do now. I think the china cabinet is small enough that it would be out of the way, but not too small that it wouldn't fit our stuff. We bought our living room set from these guys and had great service. Their prices are good, and they have a no-interest layaway program (just have to pay at least $50 a month). linkie-poo

The buyers of our house want to close earlier - June 16 as opposed to June 30, yikes! Ken is calling the sellers of the Waltham house to see if he's cool with that (he's guessing they would be, since they wanted to close earlier as it was). I just called Bill (the mortgage guy) to see if he'd be able to pull it off.

That's really weird - a little over a month away (as opposed to being almost 2 months away).

Its never a dull moment, I tell you!

Either I've suddenly become an expert packer, my boxes are surprisingly large for small boxes, or my stuff shrunk. I have only 3 book boxes (1 more to fill with books from the living room) and only 3 boxes of dining room stuff. If this keeps up, our move will be easier than last time.

I think the key is, trying to avoid using those red Staples boxes from work that paper comes in. I'll use them if I need to - but they are kind of small. The last time we moved that's the majority of what we had . . . and we had probably 70 or so boxes (coming from a 2 bedroom apartment). Brian has a lot of stuff (seriously) - I'm sure once he starts packing more seriously the things will be piling up.

It will be weird not having a dining room set. Our kitchen set will move from the craft room back into the dining room where it was when we first moved in. We'll have that at the new house too, until we get a new set on purpose that we like (as opposed ot one that's cheap and functional, like this one was).

In some ways this move is sad, saying goodbye to things that we have great memories about is going to be tough (leaving this house that we made a home literally and figuratively will be difficult). In other ways I think its cathartic - its cleaning out the crap and clutter and simplifying things. And we can't forget the delirious excitement of getting back to the old hood, either. :)
