In bloom

I've been overwhelmed by flowers lately. I'm usually happy about seeing them again come spring, but I've been more interested in planting them, buying them and smelling them.

Brian called the landscaper yesterday and they are putting aside a 5 foot dark purple lilac bush to go into our yard. Given its size and age, it should be flowering right away (yay)! They are going to drive by at some point in the next day or so to see if our suggested placement would make sense, and we'll take it from there. I'm fine putting small plants in the yard myself, but I'd feel terrible if I killed something of that size/cost, and I don't even want to think about digging the hole to put the thing in where its going (right next to a big rock), hence, paying someone with more of a clue than us to take care of it. :) Brian is such a sweetie. He mentioned last night that this is his way of buying me flowers (he rarely does, since they'll only die in a short amount of time anyway). Sometimes that geek surprises me!

When we get some time to putter again I want to get our herb garden in order. The chives that won't die came back as expected, as did the mint. It seems like nothing else is growing in there aside from hundreds of little baby trees that need weeding. I'm also hoping to get the perimeter of our yard under control this year, since the front yard, driveway strip, and bed next to the garage is in order and the lilac will be in. Our yard can be challenging given that most of it is shaded by two massive old trees.
