Friday's party was so nice. There were so many people that we hadn't seen in so much time, and I thank you all for reminding Brian that getting out of the house to see people is a good thing, and totally worth the effort. More birthday goodness was had last night (taquitos!).
Our troop at Hasbro was a lot of fun, and they were really appreciative of us being there (the staff applauded us as we headed out for the day, dragging our rubbermaid bins behind us). Pics are here: http://501neg.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=538 (some uploaded, the rest later to the same place)
Brian is out trooping at a Granite State Comicon today and I stayed home so that I could get some things done. Brian and I have been doing so much trooping lately that things just aren't getting done around our house and its starting to get to us, so we'll be trying to limit that kind of stuff a bit for a more well balanced life. I did almost 4 hours of sanding in the garage of Gram's bureau before I tired of it and I picked up the polyurethane I'll need when its bare. There's been laundry galore completed and I vacuumed the first floor and stairs. Brian slipped on our slick hardwood steps this morning, so I also (finally) picked up stair treads at Home Depot today with a matching mat for the front hallway. The colors are an off-white base with hints of olive green and a gray-purple in them. I think that painting our hallway that neutral off-white or a complementary light tan would be nice at some point (which we've wanted to do at some point - its still the 2-tone red and yellow the former homeowners put up).
Related to house stuff, we called a roofer last week that some friends have used and they still haven't gotten back to us. I can't remember if I posted here about it or not, but there was some water coming into our attic near the chimney. It could be a problem with our roof or just the flashing around the chimney, but whatever it is, it only happens from time to time (its the first time we've noticed it, by the new brown water stains on our bedroom ceiling). The former homeowners had done a lot of patching there, so its obviously been a problem for a while. Our home inspector (2 years ago) told us the roof was really old and would need replacing within 5 years. So, we're kind of motivated to just get it taken care of.
Since roofer #1 is blowing us off, we'll try to get in touch with roofer #2 who also does exterior painting (porches needing work anyone?). He had a large # of very positive reviews on Angie's list. Of course, the big question in all of this is how much will it come to, and how to pay for it. Methinks a home equity line of credit may be in our future, because though we have a bit of a nest egg, the size and awkwardness of our roof (a lot of different angles, gables, etc) will make this some pricey work I'm assuming. Ah the joys of owning property! Given all of that though, I still love having our own place. Brian and I have both been neglecting things for a little while, and we're looking forward to getting back on track.
Speaking of Brian, where is that geeky man? The con ended 2 hours ago . . .
