Brian's rarely the romantic guy, but when he is, wow!

For instance, when I was in college I comitted to a ton of baking for a bake sale to benefit the Commuter Student Organization. I was at school and/or work from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, went home to make some kind of baked good and something got messed up and I found myself at 1:00 AM with nothing to bring. I bitched and moaned, and figured out how to come up with cash the next day to buy some ready made thing at Store 24. While I slept Brian dug around in my parent's kitchen and worked his magic, and I woke up the next day to find a lot of really good home made things to bring with me to Simmons. AWWW!

The other night he e-mailed me to suggest that we spend an overnight in the White Mountains after Halloween. We took Wed-Fri off from work given that we have the time to burn and there were fall things we've wanted to do but scheduling seemed like it would prevent it. But is foliage season! He was going to call around today (payday) to see if he could find something. We didn't have to pay a mortgage payment in October given our refinance, and though that money is really needed to help fix our roof, it makes it a bit easier for us to splurge on tiny things locally.

An e-mail this morning:
"We are staying at Stonehurst Manor in a deluxe room with Jacuzzi and
Fireplace. Interestingly, they have a Thursday special. Apparently thursdays are the
day when they are least busy. The room was $170 total, including breakfast
and dinner."

Neat! http://stonehurstmanor.com/ is where we went for our honeymoon, and a 2nd honeymoon the year after. The rooms in the main house are lovely, the food in the restaurant exceptional, and the service was very, very nice. We had reserved a room for a 3rd honeymoon in 2002 but our cat Max was diagnosed with diabetes a month or so before we we were due to go and we were having a hard time getting him regulated on insulin (at that point he was still on 2 shots per day, 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM). We had also found out that our living situation at The Shaghaus was turning upside down, so we had other more important things to worry about and pay for. We haven't been back since, so its been 5 years since our last visit.

They kill you with a "foliage fee" in the New England Inns at the mid-late October period normally. I guess the weekend rate at Stonehurst is $250 per night. $170 for a Thursday is much, much better.

I'm not sure what we'll do Wednesday (we need to stay fairly local, because I have a Serger class from 6-8 in Framingham that night). Thursday we'll drive up to North Conway, spend the night, and head home sometime on Friday. Whoot! :)

I guess Stonehurst Manor has a new kitty, Mrs Bigelo:

One of the things I really loved about this place was their animal friendly attitude. Its nice having a surrogate cat when you're missing the ones you have at home. :)
