Schmoop

There's been a lot of schmoop around lately it seems. SCHMOOP!

Brian's free from being on call today and we're going out on a date tonight - bow chika bow wow! I wanted to check out the Great Pumpkin Express at http://lookoutfarm.com/ but I'm not sure how that will work with the rainy weather, so we shall see. We'll be out in that area anyway so that I can pick up a skein of yarn I ordered from The Fabric Place, so we'll do that first, have dinner at The Aztec (one of the few things I miss about living in that area) http://worcester.citysearch.com/review/4635548 and ponder doing the train thing on the way home, weather willing.

Its official, I've started Xmas shopping. I'm trying to plan better this year in terms of what I'm getting, how much I'm spending and spreading it out over the fall months so that I don't take a huge hit in December. I'm such a dork, I'm tracking it all on an Excel spreadsheet (more for morbid curiosity more than anything). I have so much fun with it, and it will be a bigger challenge this year as people are trying to scale back on the "stuff" they own. For those that are curious, crafty things, books, tea. Lush and iTunes are always good for me (though, I'd really prefer the company of friends to "stuff" when it comes down to it - but some of you just have to do something). I also have a wish list here: http://amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=yourlists_pop_1/104-7152029-2432757 . I've kept it more to remind myself of what I want, but its there and someone asked for it, so I figured I'd share.

I picked up my discs from http://www.nvcamera.com/html/home.html yesterday.

I brought in our wedding tapes and an old recording of a very special TV show to have converted to DVD. The prices were good, and it was worth it for us to pay someone else to do it (over buying our own analog-to-DV converter and Brian taking all the time to capture, reformat and all of that jazz).

I'm so happy with it! They need 5-7 days to get it done, but it cost me less than $100 for an hour long TV show and our entire wedding+reception. They cleaned up some of the quality issues on the TV show disk which is very cool (I'm sure their machine is better than my VCR and could better deal with the tracking issues). I haven't yet checked out the wedding videos, but since they were fresh tapes when used and they aren't as old as that TV show, I wasn't as as concerned.

I just wanted to let you all know, in the case that any of my local LJ friends are looking to have that kind of work done.

Related to that TV show, oh my God I bawled when I watched it! Its of my old dance teacher and is a profile of her history, the studio, the community vibe of the place and her working with special needs students. Its weird to see myself and others I see nowadays on there and see how young we all were (1991). Its also weird to see people on there that have since left the studio, either in death or for new pursuits. I think it will be tough for Peggy's students and family members to watch, but at the same time I think it was an excellent look at the studio and one people will be happy to see, despite the tears. The hour long show was mixed with commercials and featured 4 guests, Miss Peggy being the last of them. Brian is going to capture her 5-7 minute long portion and put it up somewhere so that I can share it. I'll warn you, it will make you cry (even if you didn't know Miss Peggy).
