So now that Brian's spilled the beans I can too - he had his hair cut off yesterday! He had cut it short years ago because he wanted a change, decided to grow it back about 4 years ago in preparation for our Aragorn and Arwen costumes, and now he wants a change again (and wants to cut it short for a Serenity costume). He told the good folks at DHR what he was going for, and they replied "Well, Jayne basically has the gay boi haircut, its just really unkempt and unstyled". So that's what Brian's got (pics in his LJ). They approved of the products we're using (Aveda and Lush) and sent him home with this really nifty smelling gel-type stuff. Alas, we never made it to their wedding, so Brian got to see the pictures from it - the two of them in black latex. He used to go to them on a regular basis, and they pointed out that he hadn't been there in four years, so either he hadn't had a cut in that time or he was "seeing someone else behind their back". It was the former, and he's happy to be back with them again. I missed those guys!

We did a lot of running around yesterday. If anyone ever suggests taking an intense 2 hour ballet class and then a 40 minute introductory Kung Fu class, don't do it. Man am I sore today! I'm so proud of Brian though; he's going to enroll for a 3 month period and give the Kung Fu thing a try. I guess it makes it a bit easier that our friends own the studio, and that they have a fairly open and supportive philosophy (no levels, no belts, inclusive classes - that kind of thing).

I finished my newsboy hat (the cap itself) and need to work on the visor now. I have no clue where to even begin. I'll need the knitting fu of friends or of Mom to get me started with this, but at least the hat itself looks good and the project is almost finished. I'm off to the second floor to sew more of ANH Leia before we go to Gram's 90th birthday party. Brian's in the garage with a friend sanding the NEG copy of The Emporer's throne, which will make its debut in the Boston St. Pat's parade. If you're into that sort of thing (and their discriminatory history doesn't turn you away) we'll have an impressive group this year - almost 50 troopers. Each year it kind of squicks me to march in that parade given said discriminatory history, but I want to support the NEG with another body there, spend time with friends, and the parade organizers *do* make a sizeable donation to The Jimmy Fund in our name as a thanks for us walking. I guess I take comfort in the fact that mostly gay groups end up marching today anyway - like the professional women's football team we stood behind in our first year marching. Many of them had gay pride shirts on while on their float - take that Southie! ;)

The roofers did some damage to our front steps and broke one of our Arts and Crafts number tiles (that thing cost me $25!). Brian's calling them tomorrow about it, and here's our photographic evidence (top row of thumbnails):
