My Inara costume is finished - pics when Brian uploads them. Its been a great week! Its amazing the stuff you can get done when you're not going to dance classes. :)

I'll be finishing up my Leia dress next and then moving on to getting some garb together. I have an emerald green Moresca bodice - does anyone have any favorite skirt or chemise patterns? I've also been craving knitting. I've started my first sweater and I'm stuck on one part. I need to pull together some simpler/smaller projects to knit when I get to those spots, because I really do still feel a lot like a beginner. Its so frustrating when there's all these nifty things out there that I'd love to make.

Were meeting friends for dinner at http://lacasadepedro.com/ tonight. If you haven't checked these guys out yet you should. Pedro will come by your table and see how things are going if you're a new diner.

I forgot to update! Brian just put a post in his own journal (TK7602) about our outdoor kitty. He definitely had a good deal of damage done to his poor face but its clear now its old, and healed as well as it could be. He let us pet him last night and we gave him some more food.

We're just going to call him our outdoor cat and see where things go. He's not underweight, and someone must have taken care of him at some point for that jaw to heal the way it did, despite its permanent damage. If its cooler and he's still hanging out in our yard we'll pick up one of those heated doghouse things for him to get some shelter in.

Another tiki den picture - we hung part of a grass skirt on the door as a curtain:

I stopped at my favorite thrift store on the way to meet Brian and some friends for dinner. They are run by some sisters and proceeds go to the Metrowest Humane Society http://www.sisterthrift.com/ . Brian and I had some luck in there before finding a leather jacket (that he could cut up to make some Jayne costume item for) and we found a $4 Polaroid camera for taking charity photos for the NEG. I had a bag of donations to drop off, so I figured I'd peruse the dresses they had. WOW! I tried on 5 and left with 3 - I couldn't decide. They cost only $8 each.

The colors are a bit off as expected in these, but you get the idea (scroll down to find thumbnails : http://www.marmontianderson.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=8 ) . The black one is a stretchy velvet - I LOVE the back of it, but I think it may be a bit slinky for me for work. I may see if my co-worker wants to borrow it. She's taller than me and much less curvy (around the hips or up top) so I think it may look more classy on her (compared to the va va voom on me). The brown one is well, brown. Its satin on top and a chiffon kind of flowey material on the bottom. The blue is a Jessica McClintock, and its actually a more dark/navyish color (it looks brighter in the photo). I love the cut of the front - very vintagey. The layers underneath are purple satin and the top is like an organza (I think). I found my dress for the swanky work dinner that's in the fall! All three dresses cost less than $30 total, crazy! I'm going to pick up some cute silver shoes so they'll be dressy but match with a host of different things. What's your favorite? I know its hard to tell not seeing them actually *on* me - I'm just being lazy now. :)
