I set up the dress form last night - Damn! I had the back piece of the bodice drafted out and sewn up in scrap fabric in less than two hours. I still need to make some adjustments to the 'Y shaped' overlay piece so that it wraps around to the front properly rather than falling square inside of the shoulder seam pic , but that's minor. I'm picking up some hem tape after work. I think trying to stick those gold threads inside of a piece of fabric and then sewing *that* into the bodice where appropriate may work best.
PiCon is just too expensive for us to go to for only part of an afternoon (they don't offer any day rates, and we're not paying $40 pp to walk around a con for 4 hours) so we'll be crafting for Dragoncon on Saturday. Who knows, perhaps I can get most of the bodice done and can start on the jewels for the glove/cuffs. I'm definitely getting excited about this project now.
I'm not going to kill myself, but if time allows I'll do the white PVC circle skirt to replace the one that went all wonky for my trooper groupie http://www.stormtrooperguy.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=26 . The PVC kind of ran - I don't know any other way to describe it. It looked like layers of fabric that came separated from themselves and then turned blue - really weird. I've lost a lot of weight since then anyway so the thing was too big for me when I tried to wear it at NYC Comicon in February (though Kevin Smith didn't seem to mind). I'll finish a dress I started last year - a 1940's Tiki style dress, only made from an old 70s Star Wars sheet (Ro and Kaz gave me) instead of the suggested Hawaiian print fabric. There's a growing contingent of folks dressed in old SW sheets at DC that end up meeting up in the Hyatt Lobby for pictures together, and it would be cool to join them for it this year.
I need a new crafty icon - I just don't like that one.
