dancerjodi: (Dance)
For a first Tuesday, last night's dance classes were good. I took the advanced tap at 6:15 (we covered a lot of material) and sat/chatted/knitted during the 2nd tap class (7:15) before jazz (8:00). We pretty much stuck to the schedule and people weren't slacking save for a bit of extended conversation (though, that's to be expected on the first night back I think). One of the teachers mentioned that she's going to be bringing in some kind of noisemaker thing (a set of those plastic clapping hands that you'd get at a party store that her best friend picked up for her) to keep people in line. Its all fun and games with a bit of truth to it. ;)

It should be a fun year in terms of choreography. At this point I know I'll be doing a tap routine to 'Sing! Sing! Sing!' (the Fosse Soundtrack Version) and jazz routine to 'Mama I'm a Big Girl Now' (from the Hairspray Soundtrack - I've got to see those movies). I hear rumors of another jazz routine for more advanced students and there are always a couple of ballet routines each year. I'm refraining from doing the extra Monday alum tap class or the Saturday hip hop class (its meant for the teens/tweens but I was invited to join along and help out with the teaching). I do love to dance, but I like time to do a bunch of other things too, you know?

The first ballet class of the regular session is on Saturday and my body already fears the workout (but in a good way).

I need to grab some new ballet slippers before we start because the white ones I dyed black for the show in June ended up bleeding color all over my feet - I'd rather that not all of my dance tights (those things cost almost $20 each) have black leather dye stains on them! I knew this would happen, but a $5 bottle of leather dye is cheaper than new shoes when you've already paid a couple hundred dollars for costumes (I needed black for the show and I knew I'd need new slippers for the new year anyway). Here's hoping they hold out through the year! My Thursday plans were canceled which is bad (because I'm sorry my friend is under the weather) but also good in that I'll have time to grab new shoes at Patterson's on the way home from work tomorrow - payday! I'm hoping Brian and I can spend the night at home and maybe get our front door painted too (he did some patching/sanding over the weekend so its almost all ready).
