We had a great time! The weather was perfect and pace good.
On Friday I read "Gift From the Sea" and enjoyed the bus' free wifi on the way down. We checked in to the hotel and had lunch at the Tic Tock before walking downtown many blocks to explore the East and Greenwich villiages (pizza at Two Boots, gelato at Grom, tea at a way overlly-conscious cafe) before the Organ Beats show. The venue was very cool, and the show though kind of empty was awesome. We talked Star Wars with some complete strangers who were admiring the Boba pin on Brian's jacket, and tried our best to recruit the Organ Beats to the 501st.
Sleeping in on Saturday was nice (we never fo this on vacation), we had brunch at Alice's Tea Shop on 64th and Lexington (an Alice and Wonderland themed place). So good, and worth the wait. We headed to the MOMA via Fao Swartz - I wanted to see the big Muppet Workshop. The Tim Burton exibit was neat (lots of screen used costume and prop bits, on addition to models and sketches). The layout (or lack thereof) was very annoying, and made me appreciate what they have done at the MOS in Boston. We walked the galleries a bit - I was happy to see some Charles Rennie MacIntosh and other art nouveau goodies, which was unexpected. We strolled from there to Times Sqare and the theater district. Toys r Us had the large Rex statue that was created from the LFL 3D models, so we paused to take a ton of photos. Dinner was st this awesomely old and divey diner on 8th near the theater, ironically enough The Olympic Diner. We killed some time with dinner and dessert, including the world's tallest lemon merenge. Oh my god ROCK OF AGES was so good! Funny and hot and great music and merch (which they even called "merch"). Each person got a lighter looking LED squeeze light for the show, and there was much singing, laugh-crying and lightering. I would love to see it again. The performers were extremely talented and were all in on the 80s hairband joke. Folks in the audience even came dressed up!
Today has been pretty calm, late breakfast (after running into a friend from Boston unexpectedly) and more wandering before getting our suitcase, grabbing hot dogs at Gray's Papaya and heading for Port Authority for the bus.
It was a great time and great length of time -sleeping in my own bed and seeing our kitties will be nice, and then back to work tomorrow,
