A while back my family learned that my sister had hijacked Gram's recipe box. I took them last spring to scan them and share with the relatives. Over the last 9 or so months I've been working to get them into an album, sorting, designing, trying out different tools. With some help from Brian to re-size them into standard photo dimensions I ended up making cookbooks using iPhoto and gifted them to my parents, siblings and aunts. I wish I could only get them for everyone, but the expense was prohibitive (if any of my cousins are reading this and want a copy let me know - I'd have to order for you but if you'd like one and can pay, I can get one for you). I included scans of her old recipe cards with some family photos over the years. Now that I'm done with the project I'm excited to try some of them out. My favorite, favorite recipe card was the one titled "For large family gatherings" and it was her shopping list if you will of what to get for such events. The sheer amount of meat and drink that was there was staggering, but explains how she was able to keep things so together. Spending the time working on this project was a nice memory of parties at her house, and the other day I watched on old family movie with such footage. My brother was about a year old and cousin Paul a bit younger, for reference. Crazy! There is also some footage from my old house Christmas Eve parties and outside in the yard . . . I want to sit down and share it with Deadwinter so he can see what his living space used to be like.
We had a great holiday weekend, seeing family and some friends and getting home in time before the driving got bad. Yay for a new snowblower! Brian gave it a whirl at around 5:00 and it is loud, but it works well. No work for me tomorrow, I'll just use the vacation time. I'm no wimp and I know how to drive in the snow (since my first car was a 79 Monte Carlo - rear wheel drive and not enough weight to stay on the road easily - I kept cement blocks in the trunk over each wheel). I just don't trust the other folks on the road.
Have a good, safe night folks!
