Changes

Everyone told us that once we mastered something with Mina she would change. I knew that this made sense. But oh boy were they not kidding!

Sleeping has been our main ongoing challenge (eating suffered early on as a result of not sleeping enough). She wouldn't sleep through the night. Then she would but wouldn't nap during the day. Then she would but only on me/next to me/in a carseat. Then we got her into the crib. Then she started rolling and it was back into a free-standing bassinet/rocking thing (more secure than the carseat).

We were putting her to bed around 9:00 and going to sleep (with her) at the same time. Then we got her to bed by 8:00 and were able to leave her and do somethings for ourselves for an hour or so after. Then she went earlier - going to bed by 7:00. Now it seems like she wants to go later (8:00 the last few nights).

I'm not complaining. Her temperment is so much fun and she is (I think) exceedingly easy in other areas. The EASY (Eat - Activity - Sleep - You) model works well for her (from the Baby Whisperer author). It is just, when she eats, sleeps, etc changes from day to day.

I picked her up at daycare yesterday just as they were going to give her a bottle. I love taking home one of the bottles each day - less pressure for me to fill 4 bottles for the next day. She should only need 3, but her eating frequency differs from day to day. If she sleeps more, she eats less. She eats anywhere from every 2 to 4 hours and is gone from us for around 9 hours. I took that bottle home and she held out long enough for me to get her home and get some things done in the house before we settled into the loveseat for a cuddly nursing session. She fell asleep on me. Sleeping at 5:30/6 not the best idea, but whatever. She didn't sleep well during the day. She was up for her Dad to come home at 6:30, and we didn't have much easy to cook for dinner. He had a crap day at work, so out we went. She did GREAT at Bison County in her stroller, spitting and blowing raspberries and laughing. There were twin 3 year old girls nearby watching her the entire time and when they were done with their own meal they came by to meet her. I forgot how much I loved babies when I was a kid. Older kids are FASCINATED with her. She started her tired/meltdown just as we were finishing up - perfect timing! She had a bottle and her Dad put her to bed, thankfully awake (she didn't eat to sleep). We are getting better at this.

The boobs continue. I manage to *just* pump enough for her 4 five-ounce daycare bottles each day. We may give formula at night before bed so that I can do this (though didn't need to over the weekend). There is an Isis Parenting webinar today on weaning, that I can't wait to listen to!

Our potential sitter for the nights at Celebration didn't work out, so she is going to stay with my sister (our original plan). It will be good for us all, but so hard. My plan is to pump/store and bring the milk home with me . . . 4 days won't kill me for continuing what is (now) going relatively well, supply stresses for daycare bottles aside. She'll most likely have formula that whole time I'm gone though. No way I could squeeze that bit extra out for her to feed her for 4 days.
