dancerjodiA friend told me that this was re-released recently earlier this week and I forgot to tell anyone.

Man did I love this movie! I think I want to have a heavy metal movie fest - would anyone be game? If so, what should I show? I'm thinking:

You migth also consider Gremlins II because it had so much metal in the soundtrack. River's Edge - I seem to recall it had quite a bit of metal in it too

It refers to the Saugus club that has been around a couple of times before, but has just reopened to accommodate rock's latest resurgence. Get ready for some serious headbanging, because Rockpile is booking some of the best heavy-metal and hard-rock bands in the Boston area, along with some national acts.
"We realized that the new retro is rock," says Russell Robbat, owner of the multiclub Palace complex in Saugus. "We thought the next trend might be dance music from the late '80s or early '90s, but it turns out to be rock."
Currently, Rockpile runs just on Friday nights at the Palace entertainment complex. It is spread over two rooms and has been doing brisk business with the help of sponsor WAAF (107.3 FM), whose disc jockey, Steve Flagg, broadcasts live from the club. You'll see older, long-haired metal diehards rubbing elbows with the younger, baseball-capped generation. All are united in their love of high decibels, which run all night as bands alternate in the two rooms, eliminating virtually any wait for live music.
Last Friday, no sooner had Junkyard (a solid Alice In Chains tribute band) finished in the bigger room, than the feisty Debris started blasting in the smaller room. Debris was very impressive, sporting an original sound that held the audience in rapture. Debris is a local band that could have a national future if it gets the right breaks.
And Rockpile is designed to help cement those futures. According to club manager Debby Daniels (who worked at Rockpile in its previous incarnations), the bands don't actually get paid (except for the national acts), but they play for free plugs on WAAF and the chance to mingle with industry representatives with connections. One prime example was singer Sully Erna of Godsmack, who stopped by recently and helped spark a battle-of-the-bands to find openers for Godsmack at the Tweeter Center tonight. The winners were Blind by Noon from Boston and Letdown from Rhode Island.
Admission to Rockpile is a reasonable $5. And that gets you seven or eight bands each Friday. Tomorrow's lineup includes national act Breaking Benjamin, along with Cree8, Crumble, Breeding Ground, Drill 187, Superkid, and the Tall. The club's sound quality is also quite good, though the stage lighting in the main room relies on harsh Perhapssomeone should also remove the palm trees in front of the stage in the side room (which doubles as a Latin room on Saturdays).

YES, I did hear this was open again. Part of me wants to jump up and down and run out to see cheezy metal shows. The other part of me wants to say "ew, The Rockpile, in Saugus".
I used to go here pretty often quite a while ago :)
