I'm back from my LJ hiatus and just wanted to let people know. I was getting overwhelmed by lots of silly things and needed time away from distraction (like the computer) to clear my head. I hope you're all doing well.
Our show was fun (despite having a few flukes like a really dark floor to walk out onto and part of my veil falling off at one point - the first time its happened in 26 years of dancing, actually). We all "graduated" to the next level, so here's hoping that I'll be able to continue the classes in the fall. Originally I was going to find another teacher (and get back to tap/jazz) but I'm fitting into the bellydance groove lately so for now I'll stick with it. I think what's important is to just keep moving outside of there, like at clubs or in the gym.
The kitchen is coming along - its all gutted, newly wired and today should be getting insulated and drywalled. About 1/2 of the plumbing is done; unfortunately we found that we'll have to do major plumbing work in the fall to replace crappy pipes in the basement and our 1st floor bathroom (to the tune of $4-5K). At least I guess, we will lose one of our 1950's era bathrooms. My dad is bummed that neither he nor the home inspector noticed the shoddy condition of those particular pipes (but I guess, what can you expect in a house over 100 years old?).
B and I were able to spend some time together this weekend and I procured my first latex clothing item (black dress with a tank-style top and a circle skirt). We also got to see Waltham play at The Continental in NYC, which is apparently the last club that Joey Ramone played at before he died. Frank yelled out a birthday wish at the start of one of the songs and we got to see NYC groupie sluts flash one of the guitarists *boggle*. I don't know if I'll ever get used to these guys being rock-stars, even if their rock-star status doesn't go beyond what it is now. Apparently someone from the label that represents Brittany Spears and Jay-Z (Jive records? maybe?) was to be at the show - yeah, totally different music, but you never know how things can work out.
So now I'm focusing on getting lots of stuff done at work (its been really crazy lately, for once) and am looking forward to the long weekend. On Friday we'll be chilling in our old hood at my parent's pool, having a BBQ and then walking about 15 minutes down the street for the fireworks, if anyone wants to join us. As for the rest of the weekend, I'm not going to make plans at all (which is an accomplishment for me). I'm playing things by ear and not getting overwhelmed as the activities coordinator :)

Date: 2003-07-02 04:43 am (UTC)I think I'm just going to stick around the house. We may be doing kitchen stuff (as we've been doing every weekend) and it would be nice to have a weekend of no plans so that I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
But thanks for the invite :)
