'Twas a wonderful dance class as usual last night. Its challenging trying to layer more and more moves (like doing a vertical hip shimmy while walking forward or doing a belly-roll while doing an undulation and walking forward). Its nice to be challenging my body again, and its a great group of women to be working with.
As I had mentioned last week's class was an overview of the 5 rhythms while last night we focused on the first rhythm, Flowing. There's not much online about the rhythms but I did find this from http://www.creativedoubt.org/reviews/archives/000006.php
"In flowing, she explores the feminine energies and archetypes: mother, mistress, and madonna, and through discussion and exercises, seeks to dispel the myths that surround feminine energy and archetypes"
Flowing is about connectedness, movements are relaxed and one moves into the other. We did some walking work, some arm work and some veil work of course. We also got down on our knees and did some floor work, man that hurts my knee-caps and the tops of my feet (just from the pressure of them being on the floor) more than my thigh muscles, actually. Before ending the class with a meditation of sorts we chose partners and mimicked each other's movements - I used to do this at Peggy's studio in Musical Comedy class, though Peggy called it Mirrors. It was neat to eventually become one with my partner, seamlessly changing back and forth between leader and leadee.
New this session too, is that the teachers are not leading our walking zill warmup - one student is leading for each session. I volunteered to do it last night to get it over with, and though I wasn't feeling too creative (I'm always concerned about being too repetitive, I do that when club-dancing too) people seemed to like what I did.
I do need a new veil, mine is too heavy. I must check out the clearance fabric later this week if I have time after I get paid on Thursday (mmmm, silk!).
Next week they should be bringing the video from our show, whoot!
