Almost there!

Tomorrow is Friday people, Underworld is opening. This makes me happy. Does anyone want to meet up for it? Where? I'm trying to avoid Fenway, since I'd rather not have to scope out or pay for parking.
I paid bills and don't have much left over at all. This bums me out, I wanted to go get some of the new Halloween stuff at Illuminations like these and these
I'd love to get some of the haunted house stuff, one of the "gothic" cathedral-style candleholders for an end table in our living room, and that wrought iron card table for our den to replace the cheapo folding light oak one we have.
Still, bills are more important. One such bill was the fee for a re-appraisal of our house, here's hoping we can get rid of PMI. Then we'll work on re-writing the terms of our mortgage (will drop down 1.245% of interest). According to the originator at our bank this is not a full re-finance, we'd pay a fee, sign a contract for new terms and then start a new mortgage. Has anyone had experience with this before?
I still need to get some fabric for a new veil for dance class. Here's hoping this sale silk that Synaesthesia told me about means that they are really affordable, I'd love to spend around $3 or so a yard on it :).
Gah, and need to get the zipper replaced on my leather jacket finally. I think I'll drop it off at Walter Dyer tonight.
Somebody stop me! (note to self, pick up "The Mask" DVD at some point too)

UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 06:49 am (UTC)Re: UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 06:54 am (UTC)They were, until people started being picky about stadium seating, and parking and the presence of high school kids.
Brian just wants to go out alone, just the two of us as a result. This is why he rarely makes plans :)
Still, I think it would be fun to go with a group . . . so I'm going to still try and make an attempt.
Were you able to get a ride to wherever it is with Bad Andy? If so, where would you want to go?
Re: UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 07:01 am (UTC)I would like to see it with you as well.
I don't know what Andy is doing, I asked last night and he didn't have a solid answer for me.
Re: UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 07:07 am (UTC)I'm trying to get Brian to coordinate with Rob today. I think B and I are leaning toward going to Revere (nice theater, near work). If Rob doesn't want to go (see comment about HS kids) then I think we'll be splitting off. I don't want to have to look for parking in The Fenway for this (and kind of defeats the purpose of finding a place close to work). If its at a place with stadium seating James will go (so if we go to Revere, James will probably go).
So I'll get back to you, but I'm at least leaning in the Revere direction. If things don't work out with Ethan and you can get yourself home to Melrose Brian and I could pick you up there (or, some T station beforehand . . . we could figure that out). And dinner beforehand too would be awesome!
But I'll let you know - Brian and Rob have been talking about going together for a long time so perhaps they will figure something out. Personally, I just want to see the fricken movie, I don't care if its at a drive-inn or in my parent's basement :)
Herding cats I tell you ;)
Re: UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 10:08 am (UTC)Cuz imnsho, best place to see a movie these days is there, althought fenway is similiar, I've found not all of thier rooms are awesome while I've yet to have a poor room at Framingham. And it is right next to your guys.
For parking at fenway, they have a lot right behind the theater, and if you 'buy' the validation inside it is only 3 bucks. Doesn't mitigate the ticket price, but hey. I've always found parking in there even if it is the WACKIEST parking garage ever.
K and I may not be heading to our friend's wedding until sat, so we might be heading out as well, but we aren't sure yet on all that.
Re: UNDERWORLD
Date: 2003-09-18 10:11 am (UTC)Nope, Natick. And why would everyone want to come out to Framingham (rather than us coming out to everyone)? :)

I will not pay to park in the Fenway, period :) That and going to school there for 4 years makes me tend to want to avoid the place (can anyone say Red Sox traffic? :) ).

Oh, neat! I hadn't asked K about it because I thought you guys would be off tonight. If you do decide to go and want the Reveah (dood!) experience let us know :)

Date: 2003-09-18 06:54 am (UTC)Bank stuff
Date: 2003-09-18 07:00 am (UTC)We're going with the bank that we have with the current mortgage. Unfortunately if we did this earlier in the summer we would have saved 2% . . . now the rates are higher (but still lower than when we bought) so we'll save a little over 1%.
I'm looking for info from people that re-wrote terms (the process is diff than with a full refinance) to see how it went for them. So if you know anyone like that, send em my way! :)
The bank told us that there would be no reason for us to do a full refinance if we weren't looking to get cash out of the house (which we're not). So there is no sense in going through the whole process and waiting a month if all we need to do is cough up a $1500 fee and sign a new contract to end up with the lower interest rate. Doing a re-appraisal on the current mortgage (for only $175) should help us drop PMI. After that, we'll do the new terms and drop the interest rate. I can't remember what our closing costs were before, but I think they were way more than $1700 :)
Re: Bank stuff
Date: 2003-09-18 07:13 am (UTC)Rachel found a good deal, with no extra fees, no closing costs, no points, no nothing. We paid a little at the start of the new mortgage but that was just money going into the escrow for insurance and taxes.
Re: Bank stuff
Date: 2003-09-18 07:38 am (UTC)But you see, there are always "closing costs". Its just a matter of whether you pay it at the closing or if its rolled into the mortgage. The bank always takes it cut, the attourney always needs to be paid, the appraisal always needs to be paid for. We just would rather pay it now than over a period of years with interest :)
Its kind of like buying a new car - one may not have to pay anything when they pick up the keys, but that doesn't mean that they aren't paying for taxes, registration, etc. in reality.
Of course, I'm not a banker. But I have yet to find a lender that doesn't charge any fees at all and just makes their money off of interest alone (doing all the legwork for getting the mortage in place for free). Sucks, but this is the good ule US of A we're in after all :)

Date: 2003-09-18 08:33 am (UTC)Xmas gifts
Date: 2003-09-18 08:41 am (UTC)Nope, they don't buy early (and I wouldn't want to wait till December for them) :)
Brian wants them too, and he's not too patient about buying things. My guess is that we'll get them soonish :) This is the time of year we splurge, because its when all the stuff that we like is out!

And are discounted only online? Are can you save shipping by going to the mall?
Re: Xmas gifts
Date: 2003-09-18 09:12 am (UTC)I'm going to the mall to price compare (if its the same price there it will be cheaper to not ship).
I feel so naughty! :)

Date: 2003-09-18 10:09 am (UTC)The closing itself was quite easy, they sent a lawyer to our house (at a time of our choosing) and we signed the papers. Fairly painless.
The only gotcha to the process was that they made a mistake on one of the papers on the escrow payment amount. That took a couple of phone calls (that the lawyer made) and another packet of papers sent via fedex the next day (and back) to clear up. Oh, and their estimate on closing costs was high, so they ended up needing less money than they thought. That took a couple of phone calls before the closing date to pin down.
I would suggest that you pay very close attention to the numbers on ALL the papers before you sign them and question anything you don't understand.
Good Luck!
If you've got any questions let me know.
