Brrr!

Its been a week of no heat. My company hasn't turned their's on yet (come on people, we work in a building that's got 2 floors of doctor's offices in it!).

In addition, our furnace won't kick on at home. Its an old behemoth of a furnace (over 30 years old) - it was oil originally and then was converted to gas so its a bit of a Frankenstein (parts of it are "fairly new", whatever that means). When Nstar came to inspect it last year they saw no problems and said that there was no need to replace it "unless it breaks" and when that would happen "we never can tell".

My Dad's plumber did some work in the basement and kitchen for our kitchen remodel - but supposedly they tested the furnace when they were done with the job and it came on. This is very weird.

Unrelated, we were having a plumber out to price a job for us on Monday (replacing old basement waste pipes that look like they are ready to give). Dad and his plumber discovered this when they were down working on stuff for the kitchen remodel.

Luckily Brian was able to sell some stock that (most likely) will cover the cost of that job - we'll find out about that on Monday. Now though, we also need to get someone in to check our furnace (Nstar is scheduled to come next Thursday for their safety inspection, we're going to call and let them know that the darned thing just won't turn on, and how we should proceed with it).

I REALLY hope we don't need to take all of that plumbing money to buy a new furnace instead. I'd feel better knowing that the waste pipes in my basement were secure, but heat is more important. :/

Ah, the joys of being a homeowner. We'll get by, in the meantime it will just be a bit chilly (all I can say is thank God its not cold enough yet that we need to worry about pipes bursting). We have blankets, and a fireplace, and an electric space heater. Blah!

On a more positive note, I'll either be chilling at home with pizza and anime tonight OR rocking out with Sordidout and the Waltham boys if she can get a sitter. Either way, this makes me very happy :)

Oh My Goddess is in my backpack if you choose to stay home. It's a cute anime, I think you'll like it. If you are gone, I have Stage one of Votoms for Brian and I to watch. Either way. Yay!
