Where did all the swank go?

I picked up "Christmas with the Rat Pack" from Amazon for our holiday shindig and was listening to it in the car. Man, you just can't top Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. I'm so glad that I went to a dance studio that emphasized the classics and that I was able to appreciate this kind of music (since my parents sure as hell don't listen to it). Whenever I hear this type of music it makes me think of Miss Peggy and I get all sentimental.
I love "Baby, It's Cold Outside" done by Dean Martin. You can see the lyrics here
I also really love "The Christmas Waltz". I've been swoony over that song for years but never knew the name of it (Frankie does that song on my CD).
I want to dress up and go ballroom dancing now (and if I drank, I'd have a Martini handy too)! :)
OK, back to reality. I'm off to heat up some Minestrone soup and then work on sewing my trim during my lunch break.

Date: 2003-11-14 09:45 am (UTC)Can you give me an idea on what to wear for your party? What do you define as "swanky"? I want to make sure that I've got some clothes between my ren garb and my dressy stuff.

Date: 2003-11-14 11:48 am (UTC)Well, wear whatever you want, the point is to have fun after all - I know now everyone will be dressed up crazy.
I know some people are wearing classic style lingerie (think 20'3 or 30's), some are wearing 50's June Cleaver outfits with pearls. Some are wearing Hugh Heffner PJs, some Zoot Suits . . . I still have no clue what I'm going to wear (but it will probably involve pink maribou bunny ears that I found with costume stuff in my basement).
But don't stress over it, the point is to see people and chill after all :)

Date: 2003-11-14 10:52 am (UTC)1. I'm on a mailing list for a swing club in Cambridge; they give free lessons some nights - let me know if you're ever interested in going.
2. I'm putting together a list of some stuff for Dec., I'll probably have it ready for your review real soon now. :) Let me know if there's anything specific you'd want.
3. Thanks again for the birthday eggs, and everything else. *hugs*
Stuff
Date: 2003-11-14 11:50 am (UTC)I took ballroom dance classes for about a year and a half so I know a bit of swing basics. I'd LOVE to do more, that whole not having a partner thing though gets difficult. Too bad Brian isn't a dancer :)

Awesome, thanks! Being a non-drinker I'm so clueless when it comes to these kinds of things. I don't want to have a drunken bash, but I'd like to provide some atmospheric stuff, you know? ;)

I don't know when we'll be able to do a brunch again, maybe the weekend after Thanksgiving . . . we'll see!
