La la la la la la

What a nice weekend! A party on Friday, the Keene, NH pumpkin festival, another party and Rocky Horror on Saturday and some relaxing around the house followed by a viewing of Nosferatu w/ Reflecting Skin last night. Its always busy around halloween but the activities are always fun! Tonight we'll be going to see the new Vampire Hunter D and doing some food shopping (after of course picking up Praline from the vet - she gets spayed today). Tomorrow I'll be going to a halloween shindig at K's church and then we're finally carving our pumpkins when I get home. And on Wednesday we're going to brave the crowds in Salem and do some walking around/people watching.

Today I mail out my Grad application (that is, if I can find the closest Federal Express Location) - whew!

I'm glad that its finally sweater weather - its my most favorite time of year. Before you know it we'll be turning on our heat, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and then shopping for a Christmas tree. I want to find a place to go Christmas Caroling this year :)

Does anyone know where I can buy an electric fireplace? I'm seriously jonesing for one! I've found the ones complete with Mantle that use special 'RealFlame' candles but they cost a lot of money (and I'd rather save that $ to put toward a house or for a fireplace in said house later on).

I've already turned the heat on. This may be evidence that I'm only an adopted New Englander, born in the south. Or possibly it reflects the fact that we're located at the crest of a windy hill, and this past spring my landlords cut down the big tree which provided wind-block in winter and sun-shade in summer. Or possibly that if this house was ever insulated, it fell out of the walls into the basement many decades ago.

My landlords are nice people, but some people really shouldn't own homes. At least they share the high heating bill *grin*

I'm afraid electric fireplaces scare me, so I can't help there... Good luck!

I get cold pretty easily but due to that expensive electric heat thing we try and wait until the last possible minute . . . usually sometime in the second week in November :) Sweaters and afghans are my friend when I am at home :) I guess we're lucky too in that are windows aren't as bad as they could be and the house is pretty well insulated (reminder to self - must pick up window sealer kits).

It doesn't necessarily need to throw heat, just look and sound like burning logs :) My Nana had one in her house when I was growing up and though cheezy it was always nicer than NO fireplace. My parents have a real one in their house that they burn duraflame logs in throughout the fall and winter - it was one of the things I really miss not living with them (breakfast with my nephew would be another thing).

Once Praline is all healed you'll need to come over and see how she and Flopsy are getting along. . . he just gets more and more active and excited each day :)

I've seen them all for around $400 with the mantle; what I want is just the little fake log thing (I can build my own fake mantle) . . . I'll keep looking :)

You can get a portable fireplace for $400 at http://www.spiegel.com/ You just have to search for fireplace. Lots of cool stuff.

And I am like you. I can't wait to get all bundled up and get a Christmas tree. I've never been our carolling before, but I sing anywhere I go, so that sounds fun. I've actually been so excited about being east for Christmas that I've been playing carols on my piano for the last few weeks. :)

Yup,

The ones in Spiegel are the 'RealFlame' ones, the only ones I've seen and they are all around $400. I don't think I care to spend that much $ on it (I could just go over to my parents house and use their real fireplace for free) :)

I've never been out carolling either but decided this year to try and find somewhere to do it - I think it would be a lot of fun :)

a viewing of Nosferatu w/ Reflecting Skin

I went on Saturday night, and I must say, it was wonderful! I'm so upset that I can't go to the CD Release Party at TT's on the 16th. :-(

It was a small group last night (last year I actually went on Halloween and there were many, many more people). I was proud of everyone too - last year most of them fell asleep :)

I LOVE Reflecting Skin! I'm excited about the new album coming out but I'll also be missing the release party too (its the same night that the Harry Potter movie opens and we're going to try to make it to a theater despite the craziness).
