They caught the guy that allegedly stabbed the guy I mentioned in my LJ last week:
http://www.dailynewstribune.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=33488

A friend of a friend of a friend (blah blah) of my brother knows this 20 year old and mentioned something about him being on a lot of drugs when he did this. So some guy decides its a good idea to be on a lot of drugs, and ends up almost ending the life of another guy who seems to be a decent, contributing member of society. Because he wouldn't give him a cigarette?

Dammit! I'm not trying to preach or anything - its just a reminder that drugs and/or alcohol can do bad things to people (and not just the people that are taking them). Using in moderation is one thing (I'm all for people doing their own thing, just as long as its not hurting anyone else - live free or die and all!), but many people can't do *anything* in moderation. A good time is not worth anyone's life!

I don't know. Not to play Devil's Advocate, but I tend to think that someone who'd stab someone to death while drunk or screwed up on drugs would be much more likely to do so sober as well.

I don't disagree that drugs/alcohol influence decisions, but I don't think it's to blame in situations like this. If the propensity is there to harm someone, it'll very well be amplified, but I don't think that drugs or booze, no matter in what amount, put that propensity in a person.

Some drugs do make people do really irrational things (like I'm thinking PCP). I can't remember what it was that this guy was on - I thought it was a combination of coke and speed or something).

Anyway. I think people should be able to do what they want drug wise - but if they are going to, do it in a safe place (and not randomly walking around the streets). Its much safter for both the drug user and non-user that way.
