I need to see this (warning, flash site):
http://www.magpictures.com/distribution/bukowski/
Its playing at Kendall and opens apparently on Friday. I hope it lasts a bit, we'll be away all weekend.
This is funny too, because I was pondering picking up a Bukowski book that I haven't read yet to bring on our camping trip (I'm thinking I'll be done with Ishmael by then and I may not even finish it - its just not grabbing me).

Bukowski
Date: 2004-05-25 05:35 am (UTC)I loved Women and Tales of Ordinary Madness (that one was the first I read by him). I tend to think of Hank when I think of reading to bring camping, since I read that first book over a 2 week camping trip in Vermont in the summer between my jr and sr year of high school.
Perhaps I'll pick up Pulp for my trip - is it a book or collection of short stories/poems?
"he's such a womanizer and a chauvinist, but there's just something about him and his work that's so appealing."
I really love reading prose about ordinary life events - most of our time is spent living things like that and there is a definite poetry about them that often gets neglected in literature.
Then there are the odd bizzare stories that don't fit with the others that catch you off guard (I'm thinking in "Tales of Ordinary Madness", where he tells a story of a woman he gets involved with having sex with animals *and* him - she gets pregnant and the child looks like a combination of everything she's screwed).

richard brautigan is also one of my favorites. have you read anything by him? i reccommend 'in watermelon sugar' and 'trout fishing in america' :)

Bukowski movie
Date: 2004-05-25 06:19 am (UTC)I'd assume it would be playing for at least a week, even if it is a short run. Want to try and meet up for it some time next week? Unfortunately the schedule for mid-week isn't posted that far ahead on their website it seems.
"Have fun this weekend!"
Thanks! Even if we get hit by a tropical storm (not that we will, I'm just making the assumption that we will so that I won't be dissapointed by the weather) the forced relaxation and being surrounded by nature will be good :)
