"bukowski is my favorite author. i've read almost everything by him. my three favorites are 'pulp', 'women', and 'notes from a dirty old man'."
I loved Women and Tales of Ordinary Madness (that one was the first I read by him). I tend to think of Hank when I think of reading to bring camping, since I read that first book over a 2 week camping trip in Vermont in the summer between my jr and sr year of high school.
Perhaps I'll pick up Pulp for my trip - is it a book or collection of short stories/poems?
"he's such a womanizer and a chauvinist, but there's just something about him and his work that's so appealing."
I really love reading prose about ordinary life events - most of our time is spent living things like that and there is a definite poetry about them that often gets neglected in literature.
Then there are the odd bizzare stories that don't fit with the others that catch you off guard (I'm thinking in "Tales of Ordinary Madness", where he tells a story of a woman he gets involved with having sex with animals *and* him - she gets pregnant and the child looks like a combination of everything she's screwed).
