that spot has great potential for something that will cascade over the side. creeping thyme, cascading rosemary, phlox are all good options. I'd plant one [some] of those nearer the edge and something else very architecturally interesting a little further back. a grass of some sort will look interesting all winter. There are medium-sized varieties that still get the plume, or just have lots of grass spikes that will brown over the winter. sometimes i like them more in the winter than in the summer :)
if you want something that flowers over a long period of time, let me know and i'll look up some stuff. For that site you also need something heat tolerant and somewhat arid tolerant - the raised aspect of that bed means it will dry out faster, and the heat will reflect off the driveway, cooking the plants.
