Poking around for a particular "Fame" TV Series soundtrack I found this:

Familiarity Breeds Tempting MGM Projects
Ditzy Elle Woods worked hard to excel at Harvard in last summer's "Legally Blonde," but next fall, she'll face an even tougher task: making it on TV. ABC - which originally aired a series adaptation of the similarly themed film "Clueless" - has ordered a pilot of last summer's $93 million-grossing "Blonde" for fall of 2002 consideration. "The key," says MGM president of television entertainment Hank Cohen, "is going to be to find somebody to live up to Reese Witherspoon's interpretation of Elle." (The actress has expressed interest in a proposed sequel.)
With MGM mining it's film library for other adaptations, Elle may have company. NBC has commissioned a pilot of "The Thomas Crown Affair" and is interested in remaking the horror film "Carrie" with an eye towards turning it into a series. USA is considering a one-hour pilot based on MGM's 1988 comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", and ABC has ordered a two-hour pilot of "Fame," based on the 1980 film (not the 1982-87 TV series). Cohen says the time is right for "Fame": "Look at all the reality series. [We're] in a culture so hungry for the individual achievement of fame."
MGM hopes to attract networks to its other proposed series, based on the cross-country classic "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World," the musical "Beach Blanket Bingo" and Julia Roberts's breakout film, "Mystic Pizza." But some elements that made those movies shine simply can't be recaptured. "If we could get Julia, wouldn't that be wonderful," says Cohen. "My hunch is, she's probably not available." -Jim Colucci
