Sewing:
I got the red surcoat sewn together last night. There is more finishing to be done (hems, trims, buttons). I think we'll have some time on Sunday that I can spend (hopefully) finishing up both surcoats. Whee. I need to make a stop at Fabric Place on the way home tonight to get 9 yards of gold trim for both surcoats, 3 buttons for the red surcoat (hopefully I can find diamond shaped ones that have stars on them) and 3 clasps for the black surcoat. Then Brian can go to town painting the tree of Gondor on there :)

Planting:
There are more flowers popping up on the plant I put in on Sunday! Its a Dianthus "Spangled Star" . The flowers supposedly smell like cinnamon or clove, and it was ready to bloom, small, and low to the ground (also liked high sun/heat) so we thought it would be a good addition to the lawn. Here's a pic.

Now I want to clean up the little bed that's next to our garage. I'd love to put some echinachea there and some herbs but it gets mixed sun and shade. Suggestions? I'm not sure if there are herbs I could put in the ground at this point - its pretty late in the year, so I'm wondering if I should weed, mulch, and then start fresh next year. Here's the area I'm talking about.

"My darling girl, when are you going to understand that 'normal' isn't a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage." - Stockard Channing as Frances Owens in the movie "Practical Magic"
