Issue solved
Sep. 23rd, 2004 11:06 amOur bunnies have a new home, our den has more room for people, and I'm a huge decorating dork
Brian came home and we ran out with a plan - to shop around for a bunny cage and something decorative and multifunctional that would store bun food and provide seating for people. He also took his excessive video game and controllers (Steel Battalion) to see what he could trade it in for. We don't have room for it, and he wasn't nuts about the game. He lucked out and got around $150 worth of stuff for trading it in (including the new Star Wars Game where you can shoot Gungans!).
We made a bunny cage score at the Pet Supplies Plus about 2 minutes from our house (where I usually get our regular pet supplies)! Its a 1 level good quality one with a thick plastic bottom that they can't chew through but will provide easy cleanup (2 doors in front, one huge one on top) for around $100. It figures that I find one from an Italian company. Here's the model: http://www.smallanimal-kingdom.com/tommy102.htm .I think it gives them more actual run space than the 2 floors in the wood one we had did (due to the ramp and litter box taking up so much room). They seem to be really excited to be more visible to us and more in the middle of things. They also like the straw mat that I picked up for them to sit on/chew through - I'll need to get more of those soon. The old bun house was dissasembled and is in pieces in our garage, the couch was pushed back about 3.5 feet, and the room looks HUGE now. We also picked up some wire protector things from Home Depot (expensive, but effective) to bunny proof the speaker, cable and phone wires around the perimeter so that we can let them run free in the room and not need to worry about them chewing important things.
We then had the issue of where to put the bun food that was stored under their condo. We picked up a black steel storage bench (think locker door) on clearance from Bed Bath and Beyond which is large enough to fit the buns food and other things. I had a scarf that was initially the inspriation for the color and decorating scheme in that room in the first place and wouldn't you know it, it was large enough to use as a cover on the ugly blue pleather cusion on said bench. Now the room looks bigger, the buns cage doesn't smell, there is more room for people *and* we have a multi-use storage/seating item that ties into the scarf that started the whole wacko bright blue/teal middle eastern design scheme in the first place.
As with the house in Framingham it will take a bit to get settled in just right . . . but its really nice to finally see things coming together. Here's hoping we can post pics soon (I'll wait until that woodstove shows up and our living room is also put in final order).
I'm such a dork but really love decorating . . .

Nah
Date: 2004-09-23 08:48 am (UTC)Nope - they only had one (green wire with a light tan bottom) at the store. It does match though ironically - there is dark green in our curtains :)
"Still need a small table?"
Nope. I had bought a plant stand/table at Xmas Tree Shop last weekend for $9 and put my funky scarf on it and called it an end table. Now we don't really need it with the bench thing (it would make the room look a bit cluttered.
Heh, so if you need a plant stand with a glass top to use for plants or as a little end table, let me know :)
Oh, and I never got to talk to you about *exactly* what kind of work you're looking for, but I heard our finance dept is hiring someone to do financial reporting . . . the "Business Analyst" in my old department at Tufts in Secure Horizons did just that (which was why I asked what you meant by "Business Analyst"). I'm trying to get a job description - but do you think it may be something of interest? The job would either be in Malden, Melrose or Medford (not sure what campus its on but I guess its in my building in Malden).
