Yesterday was the suck
Sep. 29th, 2004 10:47 amCommute to work took 1 full hour (what is it with 93 lately? It takes me a 1/2 hour to go 5 miles!). Commute to school from work took 2 hours (what is it with 93 lately? It took me 2 hours to go 5 miles!).
Class was to start late, and the prof showed up even later (making us get out still later). The entrance to the pike was closed (yay big dig, not) so I went into the tunnel, took Storrow to Central to the Pike, and got home late. Last night though I finally found the detour: its at the South Station exit. Next time around I'll be in the right lane to grab it and see where it leaves me (ah, driving around there is always such an adventure)!
I proceeded to sit on the floor with my cat drinking warm cider and Brian told me about his day (I looked sort of like death warmed over). After about 10 minutes I put on my PJs, brushed my teeth, washed my face and climbed into bed (only to wake up in what felt like 2 seconds to see the alarm going off at 6:15 am).
Here's to a good day to make up for yesterday's shitty day (this goes for YOU too)! Here's to a nice night filled with apple pie, a woodstove (in Watertown and on its way to my house today) and the hubby despite the rain! Here's to a rockin Thursday (bwahahaha! You will all be assimilated) and relaxing Friday and fun Saturday and relaxing Sunday.
Phear my positivity! http://www.lyricstime.com/lyrics/30204.html

Date: 2004-09-29 08:10 am (UTC)The Detour is teh Suck, and I need to rememeber to check on that, since it isn't ALL the time - last week going to ManRay I took the Pike, about 9ish PM and it was fine. The week before for the Cruxshadows, Renee and I had to cut across Chinatown, which TOTALLY sucks.
If you come up a certain road, you can skate near Southie, then into Boston near the hospital on Mass Ave, then it's either over towards the Fenway, or up Mass Ave into Cambridge, either way you avoid the "expressway" and all the detour traffic. I don't know what that road is tho *grins* so a map of the area is necessary.
Stupid traffic - I want this damn thing to be done already. When KA comes to ManRay with me, It takes twice as long. She lives in Somerville and I can't get on the road, since the bridge is closed, so I drive across Cambridge and Somerville then double back to Mass Ave, and get on at the Hospital. Never a great idea.
heh,
Date: 2004-09-29 08:12 am (UTC)Well, it was raining (and people seem to forget how to drive in the rain). Also, I was driving *right* in the middle of the big dig (in terms of getting to school) - from Malden right through Boston and out the other side of the big dig in Dorchester (to JFK/Umass).
Waltham is nowhere near rt. 93 (but is on 95, rt 2 and the mass pike) so I only deal with that kind of mess when I'm going to work or school.
But yeah, I think it was just an awful day. So many people I know were having an awful time of it.

Driving
Date: 2004-09-29 08:15 am (UTC)I've driven around Southie a bit trying to find mad backroads skills (and ended up in some not-nice areas, I think near the Old Colony projects I read about in the book Old Souls). I know other parts of Boston like the back of my hand but are still in the dark about Southie or Dot.
Yes, a map would be a good thing :) I stopped driving through Somerville to Charlestown and picking up 93 at the Fleet Center but I think I may try that again (although, its all different from the last time I did it). At least my class isn't till 7:00 and I have the time to get lost or stuck in traffic . . .
