Its Friday, yay!
KITCHEN:
I'm bidding on a fan on e-bay - the same fan we bought for the new kitchen in Framingham. For whatever reason Home Depot sells all the lights of that series *but* the fan. After poking on e-bay a bit it seems they are all going for around the same amount (basically, what they went for at Home Depot). I really want them again, so I'll just suck up the shipping $. The auction ends in 25 minutes, we shall see!
If I get it this will start the new kitchen work. New lights will be the easiest part - the wiring is there already. We'd replace the fan, then 3 possibly 4 other lights that are just fugly with other ones from the same series the fan is from. Then we'll get paint to match the fan blades and at some point paint the cabinets and woodwork that color (probably after the holidays when I'd have time, a good indoor winter project).
Next comes the messier bits: ripping out the wood floor and putting in a new one (tile is a bit expensive, so that's $ willing), ripping out backsplash tiles and putting in new ones (not as expensive but really messy, perhaps do this before floor? Floor last?). Then comes plastering the walls with the Tuscany texture and painting it a nice pale yellow, same color as in Framingham.
The last step would be for Dad to order new countertops (same dark green stone-like finish as in Framingham) and drop those in (little work for us, but more $ for us to put up).
And THEN, we'll have the awesome kitchen again. Over time we'd replace the appliances we've got with black+stainless to match our fridge (versus the white that's there now). We'd need a new stove (the one we have now is new but works like crap - takes 1/2 hour to preheat), stove hood (easy afaik, and cheap) and dishwasher. I'm not getting those till I have cash dammit! No more credit cards for me :)
In addition to all of this stuff we're got to figure out how to get more storage in there. The dumb/half useless cabinets in our fridge nook would be ripped out, the fridge would be moved further to the right, and shelves would be put on the left side wall. In addition I'm looking for some kind of island/storage thing to put to the right of our radiator. I'm hoping we could store plants and cookbooks on top and other things (food, small appliances) inside. I'm thinking these shelves and this storage thing we'd make or get in natural wood and paint the same color as the cabinets and woodwork.
Man I can't wait! I really miss working on the house. This project will be nice because it will be made up of smaller weekender things (rather than not having a kitchen at all for 3 months).
TODAY/TONIGHT:
The meeting this morning went well and the head doc asked how I was doing in my first week alone, and once again reaffirmed his confidence in me. I came back to the office from Melrose to see the start of the snow. I think the weather tonight will tell if we end up at Exmortis or not. Part of me wants to dress up, go dancing and see friends (though most of our friends probably won't be there, hrm). Part of me wants to go for dinner and snuggle in the house with a movie and some cocoa.
