I've seen ROTS twice now. We did lots of trooping and the whole thing has been pretty amazing. Our groups raised over $2700 (!) for The Jimmy Fund at the Danvers Liberty Tree theater over two days and we made a lot of little kids and adults smile. Wow. This my friends, is what its all about.

I'm looking forward to sitting on my butt a bit this week and cleaning up my house. Then its on to tackle 2 dance recitals and some more sewing projects.

The Leia gown seems to be a hit. I was asked to be Leia at some of the Boston Museum of Science events around their Science of Star Wars exhibit that will open on October 27th. I just need to figure out how to get the hair buns perfect first, but there is still time for that.

Many links with pictures to follow at some point soon :)

What does "back comb" mean?

The problem with the Leia buns isn't neatness - the problem is I don't have enough hair to do them properlly. I need to get some kind of extentions or hairpiece or something . . .

"*LOL* heh.. back combing is essentially the same as teasing and/or combing it in the "wrong" direction."

Ah, OK - I know all about that! :)

They are braided pigtails that are then put into buns, so I'm not sure how braiding the nappy/teased hair would work (its worth a try though).

Congrats about the MoS invite! Hope we can go see you there!

About the buns--some dancers I know wear big fake buns like Leia's only on top of their heads. They made the entire buns out of fake hair, so that to put them on they make little mini-buns out of their own hair and then clip these fake ones on top of the real hair. They look perfect every time and it doesn't matter how long or short your own hair is. I'm not totally sure how they were constructed, but maybe you could find instructions online somewhere...

This is the direction I'm leaning in I think. Or alternately doing a long 'tail' to wrap around my own buns to make them wider - hers actually completely cover her ears! :)

Sorry for butting in. ^_~ I noticed I was added. lol.

Would this (http://www.geocities.com/starfilly714/hair/trildirections.html) be of any help, or have you seen it already? It kind of makes it look very generic and sound simpler than it really is. I just experimented for kicks to see if it works, and it seemed to work decently--and I've got a ton of hair. ^_^ You really do make an awesome Leia.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen that particular one, but the instructions were pretty much what I had seen before. I think I just rolled my hair too tightly or something (the buns were going out rather than around/down - if that makes any sense).

I need to figure out the Slave Leia hair too - whee fun! :)
