Brian's company has a halloween party each year where employees are encouraged to dress up, there are costume contests and family and friends are invited to participate. Last year Brian wore his Stormtrooper costume and caught a lot of people off guard (they didn't know about the 501st thing). Of course, he lost the costume contest coming in 2nd place to a guy in a dress (!). The absurdness of that aside, something neat occurred.

A co-worker brought her 5ish year old son to the party who was totally hypnotized by the Stormtrooper (not knowing what he was). His Mom remedied that and bought the SW movies to show him that weekend. A few months later Brian got an e-mail from her thanking him for introducing her son to the series. Apparently its had a great effect on him and has provided a fun thing for the family to do together. When he gets in fights at school he calms himself down, thinking about how a Jedi would handle the situation. Wow!

Fast forward one year. Brian planned on wearing Boba to the party and my brother who started working there recently brought in his TK. This little boy apparently has been talking for 2 months about how excited he was to see the stormie again - only there wasn't just a stormie this time! In addition he prepped for the occasion by pulling together his own Anakin costume (including growing his hair out so he could be the proper Padawan!). EJ and Brian totally made this kid's day. He followed them around all day and introduced confused friends to Star Wars that had no clue who these weird bucketed guys were.

A photo (lets get a collective AWWW now - look at the excited look on that kid's face) for you to see the kind of impact dorks can have on a kid - this is really what its all about!: http://www.jacknye.com/Gallery/athenoween2005/img_1049
