We finally booked our hotel for our December weekend in NYC. Waiting so long kind of limited our options as most things affordable in the city were booked and everything else was looking like $500 plus per night. As such, we'll be staying outside the city in lovely Secaucus, NJ at a hotel Brian's been at before for 501st events http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/htid=845/nojs=1/eapi=23708 . There is free parking there and easy buses into the city right there, so one can't really complain. Its also not quite the ghetto kind of place that Brian and I stayed at the last time in Jersey City (the Holland Motor Inn, complete with hourly rates, reliance on the PATH and bulletproof glass in the front office).

We have tickets to see Spamalot and the Rockettes and I really want to finally check out the Cloisters and see this exhibit at the MET: http://www.metmuseum.org/special/se_event.asp?OccurrenceId=%7BB927CD20-71AD-4986-B346-66AE99B96BA4%7D . Of course, its also just a nice time of the year to be there with all of the lights and fancy window displays and such. I'm looking forward to introducing Brian to it all.

Whee! Now to e-mail the petsitter . . .

The reason I ask is, they haven't yet renovated a studio apt in the bldg I own on West 75th Street right off Central Park West. It's a nice neighborhood, and very easy to get anywhere from there. I don't know when they are (they being the management co), plan to actually get to renovating, but they don't seem in any hurry. It may well be still sitting there empty and unused in December. (Well, not empty: there's two single beds, sheets, towels, plates and cups in the kitchen, in short, just fine for a weekend stay.)

If it is, you could of course stay there. Just don't know how soon you'd have to cancel hotel reservations without paying penalty. Find out. Or even if there is a penalty, it might be less than you'd have to pay for the entire weekend anyway, so you'd save money. And I'll find out if it will still be unrented by December. . . .

One time I went to the Cloisters with a friend. It was snowing. We were the only ones there! It was really magical.

Try to have a drink at the Boathouse Restaurant (it's expensive, but worth it for the ambience).

Check out The Tavern on the Green all lit up at night.

The Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park.

The Shakespeare Garden

The Ramble, and Belvedere Castle. All in that neighborhood. Oh, yeh, we're also three blocks from The Museum or Natural History/Planetarium, and The Dakota, where John Lennon was shot. Morbid. :-)

Thanks for the (possible) offer of your place. :) I knew you were doing work there, which was why I hadn't asked in the first place.

Keep me posted on it :)

Oh! While at the MET, you MUST look at the exhibition of Van Gogh's drawings; I think this may be the first time they've been shown in America, and it'll probably be the last for a while, since they're so fragile!
