MOS trooping, special effects, going en pointe, Engrish and kitchen remodels

Friday night we heard Rob Coleman (Lucasfilsm Animation director) talk about how he did various things in the SW movies, including making a digital Yoda, doing fight scenes, how there was no such thing as a Clone suit IRL, and how Yoda is the love child of Kermit and Miss Piggy (per George). It was nice to see someone doing something they love, hear how they got into it, and see how down to earth he was about it. We hung with friends afterward, heading back to Waltham, walking down to Moody and eating at Iguana Cantina (I fell asleep soon after dinner, but the guys stayed up to play Battlefront 2).

After a good ballet class (did a new stretch at the barre, was told I could go up on pointe if I wanted (more on this later)), we headed to the MOS to troop for their R2 builder's event. Jerry Greene was giving talks throughout the day on how he built his R2-R9 http://www.r2-r9.com/ and we were there to provide eye candy. I don't think I've been at a MOS event that has had that may excited people at it. We've done a ton of events there, but this was the first during regular operation hours on a Saturday afternoon. After taking a ton of pics with people we changed, had dinner at the Galleria, and headed back to a friend's to watch Revenge of the Sith. It was a Chinese version that had been translated from English to Chinese and then back to English. The dialog was all original but the subtitles, man! As Brian shared in his journal, here's some of them:
hopeless situations warrior = jedi
uttapu = utah
gold = anakin
etc = obiwan
database = dooku
presbyterian church = jedi temple

We were supposed to go to Salem with a FL Rebel Legion member today but she didn't end up flying in for the event (broke a tooth Friday night), its rainy, and Mom's birthday is today. I did some raking outside, put away the Halloween decorations and took out the fall/Thanksgiving (so sad!). Poor Brian was up working all night so I probably won't see him for a while as he catches up on sleep. Given all of this, I'm looking forward to a kind of low-key day at home to get some things done, knit and at some point make it over to visit Mom (she's got a cold so we're not doing the family dinner as planned). I can't believe its already almost mid-November. We were supposed to start painting our kitchen around this time. Maybe we'll hit Home Depot or something later and pick up the cabinet paint. I'd love to have it done all by Thanksgiving (if we worked on it during the week, picking at it - it would be doable).

RE going back up on pointe. The last time I did this I was about 15 or so. I did pretty well at it actually, but then was off of them for a summer, sprained my ankle over that summer, went back on them too early in the fall, and almost ended up breaking my ankle (just resprained it). They are a lot of work, and really should warrant extra practice during the week (rather one class on Saturday). Given all of that, that I've done it before, that I'm 30 and feeling a bit old for it, that I'm too fat to be a ballerina (thinking tradition-wise), the shoes are expensive, and a host of other things - I'm not going to do it. Still, it was nice to be approached by the teacher and told it was an option, given that not everyone is at the level of strength (apparently) to do it.

I unsubbed from Netgoth@Sinister.net today. I was never an alt.gothic fan and never on the dataspace list myself (though, I read over Brian's shoulder). I was on Shore.net and Gothicboston and now Sinister. I think I'm just done. The quality has gone down so much over the years and the reasons for me to be there have dissipated. An end of an era of sorts!

The list is lame...

You start your own list, and host Goth events at your house :P

That would rule.

Yeah, they did that already.
*grins*
Now they host Stormtrooper parties.

Wow, so many people leaving Netgoth all of a sudden these days. Makes me ponder the age-old question, "Is the Boston goth scene dying?" (I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that one!)
