Dance class last night was nice, albeit tiring. For some reason its been kicking my ass lately! I enjoyed the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show much more this year - better editing and more showing of the actual show. I can't believe Tyra Banks is done with modeling! She's so more kick ass than any of the other models. I like how they featured her as a part of the show, and gave her the grand finale. It definitely made me want to go out and get new lingerie (I'm sure the point of the whole thing). Perhaps I will in NYC this weekend.

Its looking like we've got our basic itinerary. Like any Brian and Jodi trip, its a full one:

THURSDAY
-Arrive via bus around lunchtime, find studio, drop bags.
-Wandering in Herald Square, West Village and if time, East Village.
-Late lunch/early dinner at St. Andrew's Pub http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11359740
-Spamalot (getting to see in NYC with Tim Curry before his stint with the show is over)

FRIDAY
-Chinatown/Little Italy
-Lower East Side shopping/browsing and a trip to the http://www.tenement.org/ for 1:00 tour
-Quickly head back to Radio City for 3:00 Stage Door Tour (I've always wanted to do this)
-Rockefellar Center wandering and dinner
-6:30 Christmas Spectacular at Radio City
-Late night?

SATURDAY (Museum day)
-Cloisters at opening http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_Of_Art/introduction.asp?dep=7
-If time, St. John's Cathedral for 11:00 tour http://www.stjohndivine.org/
-The MET, primarily for this exhibit http://www.metmuseum.org/special/se_event.asp?OccurrenceId={B927CD20-71AD-4986-B346-66AE99B96BA4} and the tree in the Medieval Sculpture room http://www.metmuseum.org/special/se_event.asp?OccurrenceId={390226DE-80DE-11D3-9367-00902786BF44}
-RHPS in Chelsea (we met via the show in Boston, and have never seen it in NYC)

SUNDAY
-Explore Central Park (we'll be staying near there) and the Upper West Side shopping nearby
-At some point get our butts back to Port Authority for a 2:00 PM bus home

We won't have time for the MOMA (wanted to see http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/2005/odilon_redon.html ) or the Central Park Zoo (wanted to see the animals get foodie presents http://nyzoosandaquarium.com/5719085), ah well!

I spent a great portion of time at the Cloisters back when, when I did my Art History final on Rose windows. I made one as my "final paper".

That was also right around the time (late 80s early 90s) when there was a rapist running around Fort Tryon park (where the Cloisters are located), so I was repeatedly warned to "not be alone" every time I went there - alone.

Anyway; Jodi: I _finally_ got them to do a schedule, and I'm working Sat from 9-5, and STILL have no idea about Sunday. Given that you're leaving at 2 on Sun; do you want to try to meet somewhere, or just "next time"?
email me and let me know. FYI; I'm leaving my office at 2-3p today for an event so I wont be checking email until Thursday afternoon.

Well, we could meet up Sat night (after the 7PM tree lighting at the Met, I guess we'll be done) or on Sunday morning (not sure if you want to meet up somewhere around Central Park) if you're free?

Really? Our biggest complaint was the constant going to the backstage shots. As Erik put it, "don't destroy the fantasy on the runway."

Heh. That is a good point. Even though models deal with heat rashes and constipation just like the rest of us, we want to somehow think that there are lucky bitches who get to escape all that. :)

I kind of like seeing the reality behind it - makes them see more real and all :)

This year, there was a lot less of the backstage shot/interviewing (which was why we liked the show more). I loved the holiday themed things, though the candy lingerie was defintiely odd . . .

Wow. I grew up in New York City and never did as much as you've got planned, LOL.

If you get the chance (doesn't look like it, though!) and you like model trains, the Transit Museum in Grand Central has an awsome Lionel display going on right now.

I guess that's probably like me never doing a lot of the Boston touristy stuff. If its right in your backyard I think you kind of take it for granted :)

Cool, thanks! We were in Grand Central just to see the station the last time we were in the city (spring of 02) and I didn't know there was a transit museum there. We're basically trying to do the stereotypical holiday/winter stuff, and hit a couple of areas we missed the last time.

Its funny, when we were in Scotland last spring we saw replicas of the Tapestries at the Cloisters being woven (they are doing the whole series at Stirling Castle). Now we'll see the real thing, just in our own back yard. We had almost missed seeing the William Wallace sword there too, since it was in NYC for the first ever "tartan day" (whatever the heck that was). I'm glad we didn't miss it, that would have been really annoying to miss it for being a 4 hour drive from home :)

Yeah, like that! I mean, I never went to the Statue of Liberty until some friends from college were in town and wanted to go see it. I was kind of like, why go see something up close that you can see from your window every day?

ha ha....My husband and I went to Tartan Day, I think it was in 2002? Damn near froze my butt off that day.

Yep, which is how they gage how tall William Wallace was.

The Scots are far too amused by the fact that a small guy (Mel Gibson) plays him. They really weren't fond of the movie, as you can probably tell from this awful thing that's at the base of the Wallace Monument: http://www.diabolis.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=265&pos=7

Yeah. We saw that when we were over that way in 2001 too! It's hideous!

Though the real Mel Gibson is quite easy to look at in a kilt.
