You got big dreams, you want fame?

Well fame costs. And right here’s where you start paying, in sweat!
Brian and I watched the first disk of the Fame Season One set last night. God, I used to dress like that?! The show first aired in January of 1982, and its funny seeing how people dress, talk and move. I had forgotten how much ass Debbie Allen kicked, or how funny the music teacher was. The series was pure cheese, but I looked forward to watching each episode, and thought it would be super cool if when I got older I could also also attend the High School for the Performing Arts. I was amazed at how much of the music was familiar to me too. I hope that there is enough interest in this set so they continue releasing other seasons (apparently there were 6).
We were at Arisia on Saturday. Neither of us were really excited to attend, but we had both committed to it, so we went (I with the Rebel Legion, Brian to fulfil his duty on a Star Wars costuming panel). Without getting into details, this will be our last Arisia. We generally don't have fun at the con (I could hang out with my friends anywhere, and don't need the Park Plaza to do it), we get frustrated by the complete lack of organization and follow-through each year (by many parties), and run into a whole bunch of people we'd just rather not see (including a disproportionate number of geeks with no social skills, those looking for a fight about Lucas plot holes (um, duh?), or bitching about costuming standards). Ah well, its done. You live and learn!
I'm at work today (as I am for most holidays that aren't Xmas, New Years, Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Labor Day) and will try and get on track despite my desire to be snuggled up at home with my Brian. I can't believe its already 1/16! This week will be one for reconnecting, where I'm meeting an old work friend for dinner on Wednesday night and an old High School friend for coffee on Thursday (I haven't really hung out with her for over 10 years, we used to go to sXe hardcore shows together all of the time!).

Arisia: ditto.
I'm gonna live forever.

Date: 2006-01-17 01:17 pm (UTC)Yes! I had actually forgotten about it until they showed it in the theme song skit in the first episode (the scene itself is in the first episode, but they replay it at the front of every episode).
So much spunk for a tiny woman! The 4th episode included the Board of Education insinuating that the kids didn't get any exercise because of their lack of a PE class. Ms. Deb got this look on her face, like "um excuse me - I kick their ass every day!". So they had a fitness off of sorts, with the dancers going head to head with a bunch of jocky football players. Guess who won?! ;)
