We used our http://www.chateaurestaurant.com/waltham.html gift card for dinner last night (my parents are predictable when it comes to birthday presents) and hit the supermarket for supplies for the next week. It is so much easier going there mid-week after work than on a Sunday afternoon. We've been able to stay in the habit of going on a regular basis, which is always a good thing. There's more interesting cooking at home, and less eating out. We ran into Devina there at the registers. It makes me happy to run into friends at home that didn't originate here :).

Post the supermarket trip we went for a walk, taking advantage of the super weather. We were out for an hour, briskly going down Newton Street to 'the bubble church', turning left onto River Street, crossing Elm to Main, turning left down to Moody and heading up to Derby Street at the Newton line so we could see the site of the fire: http://www.dailynewstribune.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=70003 . Its so sad that a family business there since 1937 is gone in one night (never mind those poor homeless families)! My grandparents were good friends of the LaCavas (the former owners, not their son and his wife who own it now) and I know I probably met them more than once at some church or Sons of Italy function. I've never actually been *in* Shoppers Cafe (sad really, since its only a couple of blocks from my parent's place). I'll make a point to go when they reopen.

"Smalltham" - I like that word! It definitely holds true. I guess though some good things do come out of tragedy: http://www.dailynewstribune.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=70004 . Ken Doucette btw (the councilor they mention in this article) was the DJ at our wedding. He was a very cool guy, and actually looked forward to us putting him in a medieval tunic ("you mean, I don't have to wear a tux?") and liked us requiring him *not* to play things like the Chicken Dance, Electric Slide, et al. He got all into it with the mic, adding in a lot of "here ye, here ye"s and calling everyone Lord and Lady. Of course, he didn't know whether the name Columbine was male of female, and she was dubbed "Lord Columbine" (we gave her a centerpiece from the tables, for helping out with making the jewelry for the ladies, and he made an announcement about it). She promptly put the thing (a red rose and gold glittery silk flower candle ring) on her head. Wow, I can't believe its been almost 7 years! http://www.diabolis.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=63
