i picked up some hosta last weekend to plant. i love it so much and it's really pretty care free - unless you've got slugs.
congrats on the lilac - they're so wonderful. what color are you going for?
maybe you could get/make a greenhouse to house more delicate plants? (and/or maybe keep some hay mulch for the winters to protect more sensitive bulbs.) i've always wanted a greenhouse.
