No Charlie for us
Jun. 9th, 2006 09:29 pmWe met Charlie, and though he's a cutie and I'm sure he'd warm up to us (he's really scared of strangers at the moment) we don't think he'd be for us. He loves to be outside and we'd want to keep him inside (he will use the litter box inside, but prefers to go out). He freaks out with new people around and given that we have friends over quite often that would pose a problem for him. He has a serious weight problem, and given how high maintenance our last cat was as selfish as it is, we'd like one that isn't so high maintenance for a bit.
But, we hit Pet World again and found a cat we are interested in. The shelter wasn't open but we discussed him with them. He's an active guy, 9 months or so old, and they'd want him adopted with another. We picked out another similarly aged male that he gets along with and plays with sometimes. Brian and I will go back tomorrow when the shelter is open to meet them and may end up taking them home on Sunday. Weird!
Here's the little guy that we're interested in, Dylan: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6089168
Tysor is the black and white kitty (the son) here http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=4425860 that they thought would do well with Dylan. The bio mentions they are a bonded pair, but the woman said that since then the two don't seem too attached. He was affectionate (not as much as Dylan) and she said he can be moody, but it sounds a lot like Max was in his younger days - sometimes he's in a mood and doesn't want to be played with. The two seem like they'd be well balanced with one a bit off the wall and kittenlike and the other more reserved, but both very affectionate.
She had mentioned potentially breaking up a triple and adopting Daisy http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6398238 the gray one to pair with with Dylan, since they've played together. She said that she wouldn't like to split the three that are bonded, but at the same time she thinks they'd have an easier time adopting out a pair of 2 together than 3. I guess these three were adopted 2 weeks ago, were very skittish, and the people brought them back to the shelter. I don't like the idea of splitting these 3 up for both of those reasons.
We shall see, but its looking like tomorrow we'll make arrangements, and on Sunday we'll pick them up. Weird!
Brian and I were discussing potential names in the car based on them being two boys, their sizes, looks and apparent personalities we're thinking of calling them Mal and Jayne - heh! :)

Date: 2006-06-10 01:49 am (UTC)Dylan's such a cutie - love that Elvis lip-fang thing he has going ;P
If Tyler'll be ok w/o his Dad that might be a good match - but then I'd worry about Dad's adoptive possibilties :/
Shelters are so hard ...so many fluffs needing homes :/

Date: 2006-06-10 05:34 am (UTC)I got enough to see that Charlie isn't a good fit. Sorry to hear it, but I guarantee there's a family that's perfect for him.
We made the mistake of stopping in at Adoption Day at a local pet store in the town in Maine where my parents have recently/almost settled. It's pretty damn hard, I tell you whut.
Good luck in kittie madness! :)

Date: 2006-06-10 02:45 pm (UTC)I really, really want a cat. But I have to get permission from my landlord and since they haven't raised my rent since the day I moved in, I would rather not risk them doing so just because I get a cat. I have to go to my parent's to get some kitty lovin', which I don't mind because I get to do my laundry for free and eat all their food.
Good luck with adopting Dylan and Tysor!

Date: 2006-06-12 05:09 pm (UTC)i'm happy you are looking into 'homeless' kitties. that's the route i'll take when i'm in the market for a kitty. although, i've never even gotten to shop for one! i always manage to be at the right place at the right time when the kitty is ready to come find me.
