Some of you had read about young Katie Johnson's http://www.heartofanempire.com/Katie/ battle with cancer in my journal. Katie lost her fight with cancer at around age 6, but her final days were made rich through the efforts of a whole host of people.

Before Katie passed she and her family were able to go to Disney World via the Make a Wish Foundation. They stayed in a special place that catered to sick kids, and while there were visited by some superheros that weren't from a galaxy far far away. What's under the cut is one of the woman's descriptions of the experience and a bit on how to contribute to the organization that creates such a special place for these kids in their final days. What follows her post is a note from Albin (Katie's Dad) on the impact they had on his family in particular.

If you are interested, please take a read (and if you'd like to help out a great cause, please contribute).

Hello Legion-

Last year almost around this time, my best friend, his girlfriend, another friend, and I (part of the Heroes Alliance) traveled to the Give Kids the World compound in Kissimmee, Florida to visit a wonderful little girl named Katie. Many of you have seen Albin's pictures from their family trip last year, and have seen photos of us in action. Here is one for example: [picture cut]

Little did we know just how much this organization would change our lives. On July 15th we all, and a few more of us will return to GKTW as superheroes to make these family getaways a little more memorable.

Prior to our visit, my best friend TJ (who costumes as the BEST Superman I've ever seen) has asked that all movie theaters seeking his help for the Superman movie premiere to donate to GKTW, and I would like to see if the 501st can contribute as well.

Here is a link to the GKTW website http://www.gktw.org/ for more information. Also, if $200 or more is collected, a Paving Stone can be obtained as a tribute or a memorial. I cannot think of any other way than to give tribute to the angel now known as Katie. My employer also does Matching Gifts, so I plan on looking into that as well to maximize our donation.

If you would like to donate to this incredible organization, you can donate to my paypal account: id2381@hotmail.com . I ask that the window for this be from today (June 22nd) to July 9th so that ample time can be alloted for arrival on the 15th. And no worries, we plan on taking lots of pictures!

The children at GKTW are amazing. And when this opportunity came across me again, I immediately made arrangements to make a return trip. For more information about the Heroes Alliance, please click on the following:

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
Thank you to everyone!

And from Albin (Katie’s Dad):
What Jasmine's telling you is only the tip of the iceberg, folks. Most of us have had the privilege of giving time and energy to help others in the 501st, and you know that warm feeling in your heart. It's addictive. You want to do more.

I cannot tell you how much it means to be on the receiving end of this love. I learned that when I went through hell with my little girl. Jasmine and her friends brought light and beauty and hope to a terribly depressing moment in our lives and three little girls forgot about death for a litte while. I cry whenever I think of what they did for us.

Give Kids the World Village serves children who have life-threatening diseases and tries to give them the best vacation ever. They need your help. They love children every day and whatever money you can give will keep them going. As a testament to GKTW's impact, my 10-year-old Allie has pledged to go back there any chance she gets and volunteer at the village as a thank you for what they did for her sister and our family. It's that powerful.

Please help Jasmine and the Heroes Alliance.

We are the 501st. We are strong together.

- AL (Tk210)
