House stuff
Jun. 26th, 2006 09:05 pmBrian called the roofer today, and he's going to stop by at some point, check it out and leave us a written estimate. He doesn't do small painting jobs (only entire houses), so it was back to the drawing board to find someone to do ours.
Our job would be considered a small one (only being 2 porches, and not a whole house) so it took a while to find someone on Angie's list that seemed to do that kind of work. He had great reviews, was local(ish) in Allston and seemed to be a pleasant and good person to work with for most people. But, given the prices people paid for porch paints, Brian and I are going to suck it up and do it ourselves. Its not even the painting so much that I don't want to do as much as the scraping/cleanup, but I just can't bring myself to spend close to $1k to do something I could do myself for probably around $50 worth of paint and some elbow grease. We'll need to patch our broken concrete steps and the little brick border around our front yard - fun with masonry!
Ah well, maybe we'll get some good weather this weekend to get something productive done. The unfinished things all over are getting to me. I think Brian's feeling guilty too, because he's being all productive and nailing down the stair treads that I bought the other day :)
Phear our lame homeowner selves!
