Brian and I took our virgin voyage in the Impala (Hedwig) last night to Hampton Beach. It was fairly empty for a summer night even being in the middle of the week - the rain has definitely had its impact on its tourism. Thus, there was no cruising the boardwalk in my baby. It would have been anticlimactic given the lack of other people cruising, but I did park on beach blvd (there was no shortage of spots). And then I bought . . .
. . . an airbrushed vanity plate for the front! Can you see my virtual mullet? Okay okay, I'd never have a mullet. But, Brian told me he thought it was a really cheesy thing for me to do. :)
I have an old green MA license plate from back in the day when people only had a rear plate, which means that the front of the car is mine to play with. I haven't actually had a car with a cool vanity plate on the front since my Caddy (which also had an airbrushed plate from Hampton Beach you should know, though I didn't have it personalized), because frankly, I didn't care about either of those cars enough to want to dress it up. The plate is black with shades of blue flames along the bottom (matches my steering wheel cover) and I had them paint "Dancer" in script above the flames. My name was done in white and then a complementary blue over it. Me = 70's hot rod dork, and my Impala is the closest way I can get to that while still being practical. I don't know if you've ever sat in one of the newer Impalas from the last years and compared it to how the late 70's/early 80's models were sized and felt, but its uncanny. Its very weird, but in a cool, retro sort of way.
We're doing flex-time at work for the rest of the summer, so for working an extra hour each day this week I got out of the office today at noon. I rushed home to eat lunch, wash and vacuum my car, and screw on the new plate. It is SO sexy. You all want to have sex with my car now, admit it! I think I'm going cruising this afternoon (well - I'm heading out to buy my parents an anniversary gift, which entails some driving).
I'll post pictures later for you all to see because I'm all cool like that and stuff. :)
I am really happy with my car situation now, and its nice to be settled in something that I really fit with and that really fits me. Though, I still haven't given up on another Monte Carlo someday - that's what our 2-car garage is for: http://desoto58.com/opole/carlo79.jpg
God, I'm so easily amused sometimes!
