Brian and I were walking last night down the ethnic food aisle in the supermarket, and happened to see some http://rich.textamerica.com/details/?r=5032146. I commented that it was spelled wrong, and should have been http://www.irn-bru.co.uk/home.html. Coincidentally, a guy from Scotland happened to be in the aisle, asked us how we knew about that, and we talked a bit about our trip out there last year.
We haven't been too excited about the prices and setup for Celebration 4 (large Star Wars convention) that has been announced to be over Memorial Day weekend in CA next year - there is no hotel at the convention site and rooms are expensive. We decided to go to the London one in July instead http://www.theforce.net/celebration/story/Celebration_Europe_July_2007_99415.asp , and we'll make a vacation out of it, hitting London and Glasgow either beforehand or afterward (we loved Edinburgh, and wanted to check out the other large city and other side of the Highlands).
So its a plan - a year or so from now we'll be back in the UK. Given prices and such, I'm sure we'll pay the same for a much more interesting experience! It also gives us a break from travel costs so that we can get things taken care of with the house. We're also considering skipping DragonCon next year. We have fun and its nice to see people and all, but each year it seems less and less worth the effort and cost. We'd rather travel to places we've never been, rather than spend that money at a weekend con in Atlanta.
Some things for us to ponder (and, to look forward to)! I'd still like to go somewhere for a long weekend domestically in the spring, we shall see.

Date: 2006-07-27 05:15 pm (UTC)Glasgow's ... okay, I guess. Good shopping, pretty good nightlife. Not as touristy as Edinburgh (not a huge achievement). I live up near Aberdeen - lots of castles 'n' stuff. I'd also recommend St. Andrews, if you like 'quaint'. But Edinburgh's still my favourite.

Date: 2006-07-27 05:21 pm (UTC)I do want to check out the Willow Tea Room and see the Macintosh glasswork. I don't imagine we'd find as much to do in Glasgow as we did in Edinburgh, but we wanted to see it at least for a few days. I'd imagine we'd do more moving around between cities on this trip. Thanks for the Aberdeen tip! Seeing castles was one of the high points of our last vacation over the pond. :)
