Mal is OK

As Brian already posted about, we took our kitty Mal to the emergency vet last night because he was acting weird, and vomiting saliva. It turned out that he swallowed some thread from the serger (that the little bugger pulled off - I've never had a cat do this in my 30 years of cat experience). The vet could see it coming out of his throat and wrapped around his tongue. Almost $4000 later he went into emergency surgery at 1:00 in the morning.

We got the call at 3:00 AM that the little guy is OK, and that it was good for us to bring him in so quickly. The thread was all the way through his digestive system, and had caused some bruising in his intestines (that if left alone would probably develop into tears. Poor little guy! They made 5 incisions in the process, but seemed very pleased with the whole thing. He'll be there for a couple of days to recuperate, and we'll probably hear more from them this morning about his progress. We'll go visit him tonight.

You know, things seem to happen like this in bunches. I paid over $900 for my car last night (bum brakes), paid 75% of a $4k veterinary quote last night, and our 2nd floor bathroom sink is leaking. Oh, and the appraiser for the bank for our refinance came by this morning at around 8:00 AM. I'm not holding my breath with this, but we're hoping that they'll value the house high enough that we can get $12k out to fix our roof. If we can't, we need to save $12k (on top of that $5k that we added to our credit card debt yesterday).

Yeah, I'm just bitching. I'm just glad our sweet kitty is going to be OK, and that we have the resources to take care of these things (albeit, credit isn't the best method). I'm amazed that in one fail sweep we managed to rack up enough veterinary costs for the poor little guy to surpass what we probably paid for Max in his 5 years of being diabetic. They are our furry kids though, and they are worth it.

So, we'll be scaling back a bit of our frivilous spending. Don't worry about us, we're able to handle it all and it really is just another kick in the butt reminder that we shouldn't be wasteful. Thank you so much for some of your offers of donation - we really appreciate it, but we'll be OK! :)

Poor Mal! I am SO glad he is doing ok. Give him a hug and smooch for me when you pick him up.
