More house, move along if you don't care
Aug. 15th, 2006 08:29 amAfter changing around the stuff in our 2nd floor bathroom, making dinner and giving Mal his evening meds and sponge bath Brian and I got to work on the house again. The doors and trim in our bedroom have the first coat of paint. My grandparent's old antique mahogany bureau is all stripped and refinished (I still need to polish the hardware). Brian mounted the ceiling fan to the ceiling (rather than on the extender pole, as it was) so that our canopy bed fits around it. We came up with a bit of a plan for furniture moving (enlisting my brother's slave labor if he's free), and we still had some time to sit with Mal and catch up on our last recorded Rollins Show. Man, that was one intense season finale!
Its rainy today and I wanted to give the poly 2 days to really dry and cure (given humidity too), we have to do the second coat of paint on doors/trim in the bedroom, and I have dance class tonight, so effort and weather willing we'll move things into the new bedroom tomorrow night. Some deocorating pictures
We're keeping the 2nd floor bath walls dark purple, and I bought a new curtain yesterday to try and tie the purple walls in with our bedroom wall paint and linens:

The Nightmare Before Christmas stuff is all removed and will go to Wench33 (I'll bring it if we make it to goffee this week). The former craft room curtains (bright pink/red/organge) and their matching throw pillow are also ready for Amavia. The sheer purple curtains will be ready for Jen after we dismantle our bed (tomorrow) and the Croscill stuff from our old bedroom set (pillow shams and dust ruffle) are going to the Tiggerette. I'm hoping we can deliver our old bureau and media shelf to Avon and LSL next week.
Down the line we're going to re-do that bathroom in a big way. We want to get a 6' whirlpool tub in there, tile the inside of the shower area (right now there is woodwork around the window, and it gets moldy as you'd expect . . . wood isn't good inside of a shower)! We'll have to take out the toilet to get some ceramic tile on the floor (see prior comment about wood and water . . . why would you do that in a tiny bathroom that could take a lot of water damage?).
Given how small the bathroom is and that putting in the tub will cause us to lose the tiny linen closet that's in there, we'll need to be creative about some kind of shelving on the available walls. I'm hoping we can plan on doing this once our roof situation is resolved (once we hear about our refinance). I'm not sure how we'd go about doing it - hiring someone or doing it on our own (with Contractor Dad's help). I'd guess that if we did it on our own we'd be looking at around $2k of cost (1/2 of that for the tub, and the rest for wood, tile and some overestimation).
I'm thinking it will match our new bedroom linens well. This pic looks lighter on my monitor than it does in person, since the main color is definitely a dark reddish wine, and not a rose as this looks:

We bought Merlot sheer curtains to compliment it, which will go over miniblinds for privacy (they match the coverlet exactly actually, so you can get a better idea of the color):

And I posted yesterday already about this, but here's the room color:

I'm so excited. I love, love love decorating our home, and I think the new space will be really comfy while also feeling much bigger (it is the largest bedroom in the house).
