We received our first Peapod delivery last Friday, and the experience was a very good one. We had some very minor substitutions (because we checked the box on the website to allow it if necessary) but things arrived in a good state, the order was complete, the driver was nice and it saved us the hassle of leaving our house to shop. Our delivery window was 5-7 PM and he showed up at 5:30. They'll bring the bags up into your house (plastic, no paper), but I asked him to just leave them on the front porch since I figured it would be easier for me to deal with keeping the cats in while I brought them in myself. I did give him a tip, only a few dollars I had in my wallet and nothing major. It is allowed with Peapod (though, it wasn't allowed with Homeruns, a company we used years ago that folded).

We got some coupons to use on our next 3 orders, $5 off though we'd need to spend $100 to get the discount (they expire in December of 2007, not bad). They save your past purchases online so that buying repeat items is easy (just click off of an already stored list). They had a "Thanksgiving" section with things that they thought most would want for Thanksgiving, which made our ordering easier since we *were* buying for Thanksgiving. Its easy to navigate the site, search for things and browse what's on sale this week.

There were a couple of things that we wanted that they didn't have, though nothing earth shattering. I think it will be worth it to me sometimes to save the time and do the online order, rather than taking the hour out of a night to go out.

I was poking around on that site, and the delivery prices to me are offputting. I don't really care for that idea, since I could "do it myself" That said, I remember how many times during the Season I ate total crap because I didn't have anything in the house, and I'd probably save the delivery charge in fast food alone if the food was at the house, and I used that hour I'd shopped to prep for the week.

Let's not get into how frustrated the market makes me, OR the fact that the "oh just that one thing, because it looks yummy!" usually kills my food budget! *lol*

I wonder how they'd deal with my building? I should probably send them an email.

Thanks for the post though, I fear new things, it's nice to see it works!

leila and i used peapod a great deal pre-beetle and post-golf. i don't think i ever really had a bad experience with them. my only complaint was that it seemed like i had to order a pretty big amount to make it worthwhile, but it was really convenient.

I have thought about it a couple times, but I think I never did it for a couple of reasons listed above. The delivery price seemed a little high and I felt it needed to be a big order to be worth it. They also don't have much for vegetarian options, or didn't when I looked, and I like to use our fabric bags and get all obsessive and freaked out when we get huge quantities of plastic bags. Living with other people who do not use reusable bags leads to a HUGE amount of plastic bags that I then have to truck bag to the grocery store and put in the plastic recyling bin.
But that could just be me. :)
