I subscribe to the local daily paper. Its a big of a rag, but there's important things in there as far as city happenings and they aren't always on the website equivalent. From time to time though, I'll recognize someone or something in there that will jog my memory about something long since buried.

The Police reports are always something I'll look at. Apparently my brother's roommate (not the one some of you know, but another one) was arrested on a past warrant from Natick on Friday night. Its weird seeing your childhood home listed in the Police beat. I haven't seen that since my sister was around 13 or so and vandalized the neighborhood on Halloween. Her name couldn't be revealed given her age by law, though "two underage girls on X street" revealed the guilty parties well enough, seeing how there were only 10 houses on the street and there were two girls under 16 living in them. But I digress

The obituaries is another place that I'm always looking at. A woman in her 50's died, and it turns out I went to Catholic school with some of her kids at St. Patrick's in Watertown years ago. At one point her husband became one of Waltham's first bicycle cops, patrolling Moody and catching people running lights or going straight from that right turn only lane that's meant for turning onto Crescent Street. This is the same cop I'd meet when In my freshman year of college I went back to work at the Moody Street Burger King for some extra cash over winter break (I worked there through HS) and on my first night closing we were held up at knifepoint (lucky me, I was the one with the knife at my back). The cop was on a paid detail out front as is the norm on the weekends, and he was unaware of what was going on inside until he drove around to order a coffee, was ignored at the ordering box (gee, wonder why) and then drove around to the pay window to see where we were (much to his surprise he'd see people fighting inside of the store).

Its a small world after all . . .

If anything, its a reminder of how we all have this weird interconnectedness.
