We picked up some herb plants yesterday for our garage side bed, and a couple of strawberry plants for the front. We're going to try and get some strawberries and blackberries going in the front of our house, because its the only area that gets a lot of sun.

At some point I'll be picking up some http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinca to act as our primary ground cover. I still want to pull out this bush http://www.marmontianderson.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=19&pos=2 but its huge, and I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Anyone know what it is? Its just stupidly placed.

After taking care of the ground cover and getting the berries in (and the herbs in the back) I'll play with filling in/making sense of some of the other areas. And we need to get that rain barrel set up - we found a better place for it directly under one of the gutter pipes on the back of our house.

I can't believe that our lawn already needs mowing! I want to get us a http://www.skychairs.com/order.php (or something of that degree) to replace the crooked tree swing that's in our yard. http://www.diabolis.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=204&pos=60

Be careful with Vinca. It's invasive and can and will take over everything. As for the shrub, I'd just dig it up with a shovel, go about a foot out around it and use a spade. It should pop up but be wary of roots that get left behind since they could grow again.

That's my hope, actually :)

We've got wild strawberry -- low and small berries -- and those suckers really keep going on their own, sending out runners to spread all over. I love plants that do their thing without my needing to supervise.

Speaking of such: Let me heartily recommend Lamium (dead nettle) for spots that get so-so light: some sun, but not direct. It self seeds, spread all over, has white or pink flowers, silvery leaves, and is very hardy. Mine keeps coming back and covering more ground every year. Lots of bang for your buck.

I have had luck with Creeping Phlox. It covers really well and the color variations are nice. Mine are just about in full bloom now and need next to 0 care. As far as that shrub goes, it looks like a variant of Euynomous like I have growing in the front yard. That thing needs absolutely NO care requirements either, and as your first commenter said, get the roots cause you can grow a fresh plant from a stem clipping. Let me know if you need any help, I'd be glad to make a run up!

Sky Chairs are awesome, Avon's parent's have 2 and I love sitting in them. :)

How big is that bush? If you want to get rid of it, but don't want to throw it away, we could make a home for it at our house. The contractors killed a couple of our bushes, so we might have a big enough space for it.

After looking around, and someone's comment I think its a Euronomous bush (not sure if I'm spelling that correctly).

Its about 1-2 feet wide, and grows out fairly far (I trimmed it last fall and its back to where its in the pic).

I think I may end up calling my landscaper cousin for some help, to make sure I get all of it out, but its yours if you want it. :)

Thanks. Just bag the rootball when you dig it out and let me know when it's available and we'll figure out a good time to pick it up.

I tried "googling" for it with no luck, but hey a bush is a bush and we've got a sad empty spot that really could use a bush.
