I had a blowout on 128 around Lexington on the way home last night.

Not how I was expecting to spend my evening (or part of my paycheck). I was standing there with my car complete with donut, jack and such. I also had a cell phone and a AAA Plus membership. In my work clothes, I decided to just call AAA. Its not so hardcore of me, but I have had bad experiences of my car crushing the jack, and of not being able to get the lugnuts off (damned hydraulic wrenches at the mechanic). A bunch of people stopped by to offer help (one guy even scolding me for not doing it myself - whatever, that's what I'm paying AAA Plus for each year, and rarely using). They came within a half-hour (impressive, seeing that I was sitting in a parking lot of traffic) and I didn't feel so bad about my wimpiness. It took him - a guy who probably changes a ton of tires a day - 10 minutes to do it. He had to reposition the jack 5 times because the car kept coming down off of it. He was laying on the ground, half under the car to find a good place to stabilize the thing (yeah - I wouldn't want to be doing that in my suit and heels). Then it took him a hell of a time to get the lugnuts off, with various wrenches and prying flathead screwdrivers. Thank heavens for cell phones and AAA.

The wait at NTB was pretty painless and the people watching was interesting. The bill was not so interesting, but at least I've got on there the same kind of tire as the other ones. Brian met me at the Unos next-door for dinner and we proceeded with our running around. I needed to reschedule my haircut in Natick, a new tire was more important than my split ends.

Unrelated, some pictures to share:

Old Bathroom shelves (our cats kept pulling off the wall):

New Cabinets from Ikea to replace them (with some Ferrari Hardware, amusingly):

Unrelated, I’ve had a lot of luck at thrift stores lately. I picked up some button-down black sweaters (what I was going in there for) and a couple of other gems. This was from the large place on Moody (Global Thrift) and all shirts cost $6 each, including a black mesh shirt that was a copy of one I once owned (mine said 89’, not 90’ though) and a leopard print Betsey Johnson shirt – whoot!

I love the photos in the bathroom! What a cute idea.

And yay! For Betsey Johnson. I've always wanted something of hers, but they didn't have my size. It's going to be one of my little rewards when I get to my goal.

I've noticed that Victoria's Secret is now selling lower-end Betsey Johnson stuff - casual sleepwear and that kind of thing. I'm wondering if this shirt is from there, because the fabric is definitely not the most high quality. Still, I thought it was a cute shirt (before I noticed the tag on it). :)

Yikes! I'd have called AAA too, but that's because - *looks around in fear* - I've never changed a tire before! Yeah, yeah, I know, but no one has ever shown me. Just like I haven't gotten out to practice driving a manual. Silly city girl... Glad it went pretty well though, and wow, that AAA guy was prompt!

Looks like we're going to dinner in Waltham on Friday. I wonder if Global Thrift is open past 6? Where is it located?

Its really large (kind of hard to miss) - its on Moody Street, across the street from that costume shop. I want to say that Spruce Street is perpendicular to that part of Moody. There is a lot of junk in there, but you can luck out too - never know what you'll find. I think on Fridays they are open till 8:00 or so. :)

Score! Thrift stores are the best, but you definately need patience to go through a lot of junk to get to the treasures.
